I know but I'll still need to suffer until that happens
"Contests fought between two masters are decided instantly. An invisible battle is now raging between the two of them." Lulu vs SchneizelAnti-Spiral and Lord Genome are amazing villains.
The heroes are never boring invincible and spend a significant bent of episodes in a Darkest Hour
Also the last 5 episodes are simply put the most amazing things ever.
CAUSE EVERY GIRL IS CRAZY 'BOUT A SHARP DRESSED MANKamina was a lot more... idiotic than I thought. In a "Who in their right minds would follow this guy!?" way. But to me that his appeal. He's just so gung ho about what he does and what he wants to achieve, and won't let anything get in his way, that it inspires everyone around him to believe in him. And I think that's really charming.
Yeah, Post-Time skip was pretty interesting. I was amused by how they started developing Real Robots then.

These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.I can kind of see his appeal, but to me he just sounds obnoxious and full of himself
"Contests fought between two masters are decided instantly. An invisible battle is now raging between the two of them." Lulu vs SchneizelJust watch it. Gurren Lagann is a lot more than shouting and screaming and testosterone overload. Watch at through and you won't regret it.
He kinda was that way a bit at first to me, but just his... inability to let anything get to him and Determinator attitude rubbed me the right way inevitably.
It's a lot less... insane than I thought. Coming off of watching Imiashi's next work, Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt, I assumed (especially from what I'd heard about it) that'd be utterly anarchic; basically FLCL with mecha. But it actually has a strong internal logic to it (which especially develops after Kamina dies), and a very good narrative as well.

These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.If you can hang on through episode nine(Kamina stops hogging so much screen time after episode eight), things really do get better. The second arc is definitely the better part of the series, in my opinion.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanYou gave code geass two full season, Gurren Lagann deserves at least 13 episodes.
Preferably a few more, as the show severely changes after the Time Skip.
I can't say how you will react to the show (I can say that Kamina, while I didn't hate him, wasn't exactly the main attraction for me either), but when I finished the finale, I came out of it feeling like my soul had orgasmed.
The last five episodes are that good.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI think a lot of fans, the way they talk about him, kinda over blow Kamina's importance to the story when perceived by people who haven't seen it. Yeah, he IS important, but this is Simon's story, not Kamina. Kamina really isn't a Decoy Protagonist because its made pretty obviously clear that Simon is the protagonist.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.I never enjoyed TTGL, but then again I've been exposed to classic mecha shows even when I was a baby and most TTGL fans are new people. I thought Kamina was obnoxious, Simon was a generic shounen hero, and the setting was pretty commonplace.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.I went into the show expecting Kamina to be obnoxious and found to my surprise that he wasn't the horrible over the top character people made him out to be.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimWell I think he actually is kind of self aware of how ludicrous he is, its just that he consciously decides not to let that get him down.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.If I recall, when he saw Simon not giving up when they were all trapped in a tunnel, he felt the least he could do was put on a show of bravado to keep everyone from falling into despair, and he kept right on doing that up to and into the show.

"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimYes, but that's a spoiler.
Gurren Lagann is one of those rare anime that everyone should consider seeing at least once.
......it is also an anime where, the more you watch it, the more you start loving it.
Kamina is still my favorite character. It's.....literally impossible to dislike him. Trust me. :)
Nah, not for me. The more I watched the show the more I face-palmed, and the more I want to smack Kamina's groin for being a smelly gorilla who apparently has "philosophies". The show pretty much gives Super Robot a wrong image especially to those who don't watch the genre. Hell, I think that one gave the illusion that "All Super Robot Pilots SCREAM!"
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.Watch it. It doesn't really get the ball rolling until about episode nine, after all the main characters are introduced and Kamina kicks it.
The two Big Bads are amazing. They're just so fun to watch, and the last one is just so fun to hate.
Boring Invincible Hero? Nah. Even when they approach that point, it has consequences.
Oh, and the point to take from Kamina is that he ISN'T the main character. He's a support character. That's exactly what he does. He supports Simon and kick-starts his character arc.
Think of him as a blue lantern to Simon's green. Without Simon, he can boast all he wants, but its meaningless. Together, they're unstoppable.
So, yeah, I'd recommend watching it. Its one of my five most recommended anime. The others being FLCL, Evangelion, Casshern Sins and D.Gray-Man

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireDidn't watch past episode eight, did we?
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialHell no, I finished it. I still never find anything interesting in it. And stuff like this only adds to my disdain on the show - fans suddenly bewildered as to why someone couldn't enjoy it (on top of their Fan Myopia).

Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.- How do you know you hate him if you've never watched the show?
- There are some pretty good ones, yes.
- That doesn't happen.
Boy, that was easy!
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.I'm still bewildered at how people say "they're not Boring Invincible Heroes" especially when the Spiral energy is pretty much like that. It's as bad as Marvel fanboys claiming their heroes are "realistic and not overpowered unlike DC heroes!" before betting on Thor, Wolverine, and a bunch of cosmic entities.

I know I'm gonna get shit for this one:
Should I watch Gurren Lagann all the way through?
1.) I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, Kamina!! (just thought I'd say that )
2.) Are there any good villains in TTGL?
3.) Please don't say the heroes become Boring Invincible Heroes. One of my most hated of tropes.
Hype Aversion has been hitting me pretty bad with this one. I've seen the first 5 episodes, and I am really not enjoying myself all that much. Does it get better as it goes along?
