Holy Shit!

I don't know about you guys, but I fucking loved Dragon Quest Monsters on the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, and hearing about a remake on the Nintendo 3 DS is just awesome!

Here's hoping for an announcement of an English localization soon!

YAY!

...I just bought that game for the GBC. XD I liked Tara's Adventure better though. I LOVED THE random dungeons/worlds.

Just so long as they don't bring over the craptacular spell system from the Joker games.

Because it is way more fun to breed eight of the game's most overpowered spells onto a single low-level monster just for the WTF factor. And get rid of the arbitrary caps. Concerns about game breaking are pretty moot anyway, since you have to be half-crazy and have waaay too much time on your hands (Fig. A: Freezair) to do it. I still love my maxed-out Florajay (ahh, just the name alone brings back wonderous memories) with a spellset that includes things like Hellblast, Megamagic, and Heal Us All.

In DQMII I made my entire party Rain Hawks. XD

I have to say, the Dragon Quest series is the only part of Square Enix these days that I can respect to some significant degree (though the recent hints at a possible sequel to The World Ends With You might change that.)

My party in DQM was a Florajay, and Anteater, and and Great Drak. All of them bred to super-high stats and lots of crazy spells. Florajay was crazy magical offense with crazy healing, Anteater was weird spells (like Tatsu Call and the one that causes the dancing status) and healing, and Great Drak was all the elemental spells and, you guessed it, healing.

In DWMII, I had a Flora Man with the same crazy spellset as my Florajay (I bred across games to get it), as well as a Pearlslime that knew lots of awesome support stuff, and another Great Drak (it's an awesome monster!) with more random spells.

And I loved my Great Drak's names, too. Zeus and Zelda. If you're a really hardcore fan, you'll know which was from which game just by looking at the names.

Be right back, freaking the fuck out over this.

If this means that I get my *bleeping* Bird category back, with my freaking Shantak, then I will be VERY pleased. That was my favorite category of monsters, and they-*rage*

I only ever played DQMII really, but I know that the first one was similar enough to be stoked as hell over this. :P I'd like to play through that game properly anyway. But man-I now have a total urge to dig out my SP and play II again. The nostalgia is just hitting me by the truckload right now.

I would get a 3DS JUST to play this. Sweet lord.

I never spent the time to create uber-powered low-tier creatures. I just usually went straight for a Blizzardy and Pheonix (Fire Bird? Snow Bird? Whats that?), and then eventually went for a rainhawk, a shantak, and some third creature.

Dude, at least use their proper names instead of their mistranslated ones.

Does it matter which names you use?

Dude, people remember the mistranslated names with fondness. Hell, I think some of the older names are better, and I kind of think "Dragon Warrior" sounds a little bit cooler than "Dragon Quest."

Of course, I'm most likely going to enjoy this game anyway. I would love to see how they update the game, and if they decide to remake Dragon Warrior/Quest Monsters II, that would be the absolutely best thing ever.

Even though I KNOW they're probably going to keep a censor, nothing's going to stop me from getting the game and then naming giving my old monsters their eternal names such as BUTT and SHIT. Ah, 4-letter name restrictions.

Forget the tropes until after you're done.

^^^^ Dude, I grew up with the "mistranslated" names. The "Correct" ones, for those two at least, don't even make sense to me. Its a bird. And its on fire. Its a freaking pheonix. And Snow Bird just sounds silly to me, though that's likely nostalgia filter. I have no idea what Shantak's (Is that even spelled right?) "correct" name is, because I haven't seen it since DQMII, and haven't played the main games, on the off chance that monster appears in any of them.

Sooo ya. I keep seeing old monsters with names I'm totally unfamiliar with. When I'm trying to talk about them, I'm going to use the names I know.

Sorry for the necromancy, but here's a site with all the monsters. Just when you thought a Kill Sat Slime was as ridiculous as it could get, along comes a Death Star Slime!

Amount of monsters you can now have? Fucking Genius!

Also, Slime Power Rangers, apparently. And Mortamor's hands are their own monsters.

Man I hate Toriyma's fur-based designs. Most of them look so goofy.

And a lot of his dragons are so fat. But some of those look really cool.

The selection is so overwhelming. My team may be Tyrannosaurus Wrecks,Nodoph and Duran. And I will get Xiphos the Deathbringer,no Edahs Sophix though.

I know they said all the old monsters would be back... but I still did a little bitty squee when I saw this guy in the list. I had a ridiculously kitted-out one of these guys on my main team. Its breeding level was something like +50. I'd gotten all the hardcore killstuff skills on it. Maxed stats. So much nostalgia...!

I've never been a fan of Toriyama's designs, and one of the fatal flaws of the Joker series to me was the fact that the 3D models meant I couldn't "fill in the gaps" on the details, so to speak, and not worry about the art style. But man, I am sorely tempted by this game...

Dunno who this guy is, but he's pretty cute.

He's kinda badass!

This guy always looked so hardcore in his sprite, but his official art makes him look weirdly cutesy.

I had one of these in Tara's Adventure. I cross-bred him with my Florajay so they both had the same ludicrous skill set.

Heehee.

Speaking of Joker, this reminds me of the Monster Rancher Joker.

Dunno why, but I've always liked this guy.

What the fu--

^_^

Holy hell, is that a Necronomicon? Sweet!

YES

There's a simple elegance to this monster I've always liked.

Adorable wizard slime is adorable!

I don't know what this is, but I don't want to meet it in a back alleyway.

Is... is this all one monster?!

You, sir, are precious.

Interesting palette swap.

Girliest monster ever. I'm eating it up.

Another old favorite of mine; I used one in both the GB games. Their names were Zeus and Zelda.

Hope there's no catapault turtles in this game.

Rocket Slime reference?

Damn, he's just cool.

My best friend's favorite monster in the series. Seems fitting to end on.

Well, OK, just one more...

Garurumon? Izzat you?

Third guy from the bottom is Styrmling, a mysterious character who was only mentioned in IX and generated a lot of speculation. He might appear in X, but I'm not sure; we know oddly little about that game over here.

By the by, I would just like to state that Google Translating that page and looking at the monster names is hilarious.

"Seriously Lava." "So Non-Specific." "Shrimp Dungeon." "Your Cousin, Tiger" And a good contender for my personal favorite: "Serge Eggplant."

The only way I would be interested is if they brought back the surf shell and water group, but those were not until Tara/Tobi.

Monster 565 is apparently the Big Bad of the game; his name is Mather. The last two on the list, 608 and 609, are his One-Winged Angel and Bishōnen Line forms respectively.
