What are some of the most insane blades you've ever seen in a video game?

Night Terror's Soul Edge complete form, which is Soul Calibur 3 EXCLUSIVE! If you're not afraid of a large blade made almost entirely out of baring sharp teeth, you're not gonna afraid of anything Evil Is Visceral ever

And this one is kinda tame for you, but I find Sultan's Sword in Prince of Persia The Two Thrones to be cool in a sort of stylized mideastern way

What profit is it to a man, when he gains his money, but loses his internet? Anonymous 16:26 I believe...

Hmm pretty cool.

While the game isn't out yet, I think an extreme example of BFS has been found.

If you thought Sephiroth's sword was huge, This just goes far beyond the realm of sanity.

Of course, there's other cool blades out there too, like Vergil's Yamato, the Gunblade from Final Fantasy and the ever classic Buster Sword.

Those swords around Edge of Madness. Doesn't exactly help that Chaos throws them at you. Also, they're about three-storeys tall.

"badass" doesn't anything in after used end fail be fine.

I would like to know how come keyblades are so damn sharp despite most of them looking rather blunt.

The gunblade is pretty damn ridiculous, as is the Buster Sword before it.

[up] Actually, that would depend on the model. Sure, msot of them would be ridiculously impractical IRL, but when you get to the Lionheart model, it loses all appearances of being ridiculous. Sure, the blade is currently impossible IRL, but as something non-physical, it wouldn't get in the way of the gun part AND it would be rather easy to sue)

Anyway, on the subject of Touhou, Tenshi's Sword of Hisou. Let's run through its effects-

  • It absorbs temperament from others. It can influence the weather this way (this is most of what was behind SWR)
  • It can cause earthquakes (She flattened the Hakurei Shrine doign this.... and she did it deliberately. Would you believe she actually WANTED a pissed-off Reimu attacking her?)
  • If enough temperament is absorbed, she can use it to fire danmaku bullets that are so densely packed it's practically a Spark (Spark = huge laser. Yuuka has the Master Spark, which Marisa copied and then developed all the other variants from. To clarify, Tenshi's sword can fire huge streams of bullets that look like a laser. She uses this for her final spellcard in SWR (and it's also her final spellcard in DS))

If we're talking big swords, I think that thing from Super Mario RPG might be a contender...

Blessed Knight's Sword +5 from Demons Souls.

This sword isn't huge, nor does it have any special beam attack or anything. The flipside is that it's not ridiculous; any trained swordsman could pick it up and use it well. It also deals large amounts of holy damage and heals the wounds of the user.

Essentially? It's an easy-to-use, high-damage sword that basically transforms one into an eternal swordsman. If one doesn't get cut down instantly, they can go on to fight endlessly.

Most insane swords are unusable, or defeat the point of swordsmanship. But this is a swordsman's sword, meaning that the user has a weapon optimised for the actual martial arts that underpin it while benefiting from a limited form of immortality.

This thing is Excalibur-lite in good hands.

Nero's sword from Devil May Cry 4. Seriously, the guy bolted a motorcycle engine to his frakking big sword and then set light to it every once in a while.

Zidane's swords in Dissidia.

Also, the thing about the gunblade is that it was never meant to fire bullets. It is an explosive cap in each barrel meant to increase the force upon impact.

That's how the gunblade in VIII worked, anyways, although every rendition in the FF series seems to be different.

No discussion about insane swords is complete without the sword wielded by the protagonists of the two Final Fantasy Tactics Advance games: [1]

Pity you can't get this in game.

The "Swords" used by Frank from Shadow Hearts: From the new world include a two-person saw on a hilt, a cactus on a hilt, and an entire motorcycle... On a hilt.

The Persian Persuader in Team Fortress 2. It's a scimitar that converts dropped ammo into health. That means that every time you kill someone, the weapon they drop will give you ammo. Particularly useful in Medieval Mode, where ammo is a minor concern.

Bumper sword. Either you live in the ghetto or a post-apocalyptic future where your sword is made of wires and a car bumper.

I at least described the reasoning for the sword I mentioned (by listing what it could do)
