I agree with you on its quality. Of all the sitcoms I saw as a kid, I have the fondest memories of Fresh Prince, and I also believe it's the one that would hold up best to watching it now.
I only discovered tit this week. I'm still amazed at how Mr. Smith can get away with those ridiculous outfits looking cool and awesome instead of like a moron. His behavior in dating would mark him as a sleazy bastard à la Barney Stintson, but he comes accross as a Loveable Sex Maniac instead. Though the sexism in this series is still remarcable.
Oh, and Geoffrey is priceless. Zip-a-dee-doo indeed.
An action is not virtuous merely because it is unpleasant to do.Ah... I grew up watching this series, blissfully unaware of what a lot of the jokes meant. Now I do know, but it doesn't really ruin the nostalgia of watching the episodes. Fresh Prince has a permanant place on my mental list of favourite programmes, which isn't something easily earned.

An action is not virtuous merely because it is unpleasant to do.This show will forever be my favorite 90s sitcom; Seinfeld is a close second.

A case of true love has the same redeeming power as a case of genuine curiosity: they are the same.Yeah, Fresh Prince was an awesome show. And to date, the only show that can make me tear up. The Will's Dad episode hits really close to home for me. But that's a whole other can of worms.
"How come he don't want me, man?"
A case of true love has the same redeeming power as a case of genuine curiosity: they are the same.Fresh Prince is probably my favourite American 'more-than-one-camera-at-a-time' sitcom.
I agree. Awesome show all around. I can honestly say that I don't think it ever jumped the shark.

- Jazz: Mrs Banks, is there something different about you?
- Jazz: Is the mother played by the same actress this year?
- Little Nikki shows up: he used to be a baby, he is now four:No, it's the same mama.
- Jazz: I'm going back to the street where things make sense.
I rarely saw it as a child in the early 90's since i was always on the SNES (yes, literally. I was born in 84', sue me) and it was on one of the Networks, eww old people TV.
Fresh Prince brings me back to my childhood. It's actual quality, and I think The Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire is the reason for Will Smith being the Mega Star he is today.

I find the jokes funny and corny at the same time(especially Uncle Phil jokes). I do find Uncle Phil a bit unlikable in earlier seasons, but I guess that's part of his character development.

I'm a skeptical squirrelI've been watching Fresh Prince on ABC Family again (although I'm pissed that they pushed out the American edition of Whose Line). Rewatching the show, a lot of Will's wisecracks against Carlton come off as horribly mean-spirited.

I vaguely recall watching it as a child, either in first-run or reruns somewhere else. All I remember is that my mama got scared and said, "you're moving with your uncle and auntie in Bel Air."
...Er, let me try that again.
My mom didn't like Fresh Prince and only watched it because it was on before something else she liked.
The last time I really followed this show I was like 10, so a lot probably went over my head.

Gentlemen I just be watchin dat movie Fresh. Man da contrast wi' da Fresh Prince is freakin' uncanny. I mean you can see the fruckn' Bowlderziation straight up, yo.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I think what helps out Fresh Prince a lot, compared to most other sitcoms, is that it never went overboard with the Flanderization. Carlton became more goofy in latter seasons, but it never got to the point where people questioned "how he's a functional adult?"
That and when it came down to it, Will, Uncle Phil, and Carlton were all pretty three-dimensional characters and had, for the most part, consistent characterization. Though I still feel the writers shouldn't have backed out on Will tying the knot with Lisa. I think that was the show's biggest mistake, and the last season was really spinning on it's wheels.
The best, funniest, wittiest sitcom with the tightest writing and the ost charismatic actors ever doesn't have a thread. I, on the other hand, has a sad.
