If anyone has the time and patience to go through the "Others" folder, move examples to the appropriate subtrope whenever possible, and organize the rest by medium, we would all be grateful.
Oh, geez... Pokemon uses Theme Naming like it's going out of style. It's used Colorful Theme Naming, Floral Theme Naming, Location Theme Naming, Numerical Theme Naming, Religious and Mythological Theme Naming (though I think this only happened in French), Rock Theme Naming, the elemental theme naming trope yet launched (of course, running wild with it involving the game's 17 elemental types), puns... and it's worth noting that those examples are listed in the appropriate section (and several duplicated, particularly ones involving plants).
Honestly, it's probably safer to just ditch that entire thing; the series is well-documented already in multiple spots for which ones it uses.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. So can we agree on: Weapons, Puns, Science and Technology, and Opposites?
Try those out on YKKTW, and see how things go.
Of those, I personally would like to do the YKTTW for "Opposites", and maybe "Weapons" if no one else wants it.
I think so. Those all have plenty of examples, and will only get more with a run through YKTTW.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I'm going to be busy all afternoon, but I'm going to get something up for Opposites now so we can start collecting examples while I'm away.
I've started sorting the "Other" category but it is pretty big and I have other things to do. I'd like some help finishing it up. Also, could someone go through and delete duplicate examples and move things from "Other" that would qualify for another category of a subtrope?
I finished sorting the "Other" category. I'm thinking that for the sake of simplicity and reducing cluter, all the categories with three or fewer examples can be rolled into the "other" category. Any objections?
I pulled a few out of other that fit in one of the named categories — there were a couple of "gemstone or minerals" that I moved to Science, and I moved the "playing card" ones to Games.
I think that we may want to make a folder for "Multiple themes In use at the same time." That looks like it's a large and confusing part of the Other folder.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.My concern is that if we have separate subject division and "multiple themes" division that we will end up with duplicate examples. In fact, that is exactly what did happen with the "All Over" category that I merged with "Other". A example related to underwear names ended up both in clothing and in the "All Over".
I found that we already have a Punny Name trope. I'm thinking it can double as the Punny Theme Naming subtrope to Theme Naming. I'll I would have to do is move the examples from the "Puns" folder over to the trope, create a Punny Theme Naming redirect, and as a line about how if multiple characters have Punny Names, it can be an example of Punny Theme Naming. Any objections?

I think you have it backwards - Punny Theme Naming would be a subtrope to Punny Name (I've seen plenty of works where only one character has such a name - it's usually lampshaded in-work as well).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Hang on, since when does this page divide by medium?
Perhaps I should provide a bit of history. Back in ye olden dayes, there was a single Theme Naming page, divided by medium. It got very long, and so the decision was made to split it into subtropes by theme. At the same time, the examples remaining on the page were rearranged to be organised by theme rather than medium so that, if any section got particularly long, it could easily be transplanted to a new subtrope.
At this time, the All over the place category was for examples which simply said "This series uses all sorts of theme naming" without going into any more detail; I believe the Other section was for a few dregs which couldn't be described in a couple of words.
Anyway, it turns out that was not a good idea. The page should be exclusively divided by naming theme to make things easier to follow.
Ukrainian Red CrossThe problem with having both an "All Over the Place" and an "Other" was that we were getting duplicate examples as people were treating both as "Misc."
Also, the "Other" was getting so absurdly long that that the "Other" had to be divided up. Seeing how dividing by medium is the standard for most pages, that was the most logical way of doing it. You will note that many of the examples are still divided by theme type. It is just the "Other" that was given an additional split up by medium.
"Multiple Naming Themes" might work better than "All Over The Place"
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickGot a holler to close this one. It looks like the original problem with the description was solved and that we've got a workable scheme for organizing the examples. Any objections to locking up?
Yes, we're still sorting what to do with that huge Other folder that's a bit of a mess at the moment.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickTo be more accurate, it isn't a folder, it is several folders, arranged by medium, which is how most trope pages are arranged. At most, we can have someone volunteer to go through and move any examples in the "other" section to the appropriate subtrope page or category folder.
I think the current arrangement is okay, but if we were to make any further changes, I'd say kill "sorted by theme" section and have everything that isn't on its own, distinct subtrope just be organized by medium, like virtually every other page out there. That way the exact same examples for a give show will all be on one location instead of being repeated endlessly on the same page.
The problem with the old arrangement of "multiple themes", "other themes" and "specific theme categories" was that lots of examples ended up in several different folders at once. So, Dragon Ball Z's underwear theme, for example, got listed both in Clothing and and "All Over [multiple themes]" section. This arrangement is better. Everything should be listed either in a preexisitng category, or it it doesn't fit that category, be listed under "other".

Thread isn't active and issues are reported as resolved; locking.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.
I just cut and pasted the plants section. It will take me a few minutes to organize the examples on the Floral page. I also created a Plant Theme Naming redirect.
Someone that knows something about Pokemon needs to clean up the Pokemon examples. There were some examples already on the subpage plus what I pasted from the main page, and I wasn't sure which was duplicating what.
