Yeah, I failed Guess The Trope on this one. Not a very good name. Soap could be called a Disgrace To Blackbears, depending on who you ask.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! What is the trope, anyway? Overly-romanticized pirates, or cold-blooded, ruthless pirates that are completely un-romanticized? The description is not clear, and as DQZ points out, Blackbeard could be considered either one: he was actually ruthless and cold-blooded, but he's been heavily romanticized, as well.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.The cold-blooded, ruthless kind.
What confuses me is: is this supposed to encompass the more realistic depictions of historical pirates as well? The description says: "Unlike their fictional counterparts, there is nothing romantic about these modern-day pirates" (emphasis mine).
Agree the name is silly and doesn't suggest the trope at all.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. The un-romanticised historical type is on Pirate as Type 1. This is exclusively about the modern kind. How about Ruthless Modern Pirates as a new name?
Bloodthirsty Pirate? Ruthless Pirate?
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Maritime Terrorists? Mentioned in the article itself as an existing term.
If it's about specifically modern ruthless pirates, then the name should reflect that. Ruthless Modern Pirates is dead boring and completely, crystal clear. I can accept that.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I concur.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Yep, sounds better.
"You want to see how a human dies? At ramming speed." - Emily Wong.I'm cool with it.
Fight smart, not fair.I like this name, but it certainly does nothing to indicate what it's about other then "pirates". I'm fine with Ruthless Modern Pirates.
I'd be fine with just Modern Pirates, but Ruthless Modern Pirates works too.
The current name is completely opaque (well, it says "something about pirates", I guess), and I believe I've seen it misused for "incompetent pirates".

Bump. Is this getting a rename?

I'm fine with ruthless modern pirates.
Sounds good to me too.
8 in favor, none against. bump?
Make it 9 in favor, none opposed. I think we can probably consider this a unanimous decision and dispense with the crowner. Move to call this as a decision to rename to Ruthless Modern Pirates, and tag as pending-final.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.10 in favour, none opposed. Current name fails, new proposed name is a good one.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username."Make it so."
I kinda like the current name, but Disgrace To Long John Silver would probably be closer to the mark
Jet-a-Reeno!That makes me think of really bad fast food...
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThe problem with "a disgrace to [insert pirate name]" is that to me, it sounds like it's about incompetent pirates. And from the misuse I've seen, it seems I'm not alone in that.
Putting myself in as 12 in favor, if we're counting.

Lucky thirteen! Or have I already been counted?
Edit: Apparently so.

First of all, the name doesn't indicate how it's a disgrace. Second of all, if you know who Blackbeard was, you would know that he was actually kind of like the trope, so the name is outright wrong.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
