What's the point?: Tautological Templar

From the description of Tautological Templar, it sounds exactly like Knight Templar. The TT article doesn't even make an effort to distinguish itself in the description, and most of the examples are in both articles. We should probably just nuke TT.

Based on the name, I'm inclined to guess that TT is a group that believes they're right because they're powerful.

Tautological Templar seems to be about calling the Knight Templar out and being given a justification that doesn't work due to flawed reasoning. Essentially "My bad actions are good because I am good, and I am good because I'm doing the right thing."

However, the title refers to it as a character trope and it's portrayed as one rather than a situational trope.

No, as a matter of fact it wasn't. That sort of comment is completely non-productive.

" A character who believes what he's doing is right, because he's good, and that he's good because what he's doing is right."

It's almost a year old, it's got 36 wicks and 87 inbounds. That's not sickly, but it's not thriving.

I don't see substantial difference between this and a normal Knight Templar or Well-Intentioned Extremist (except that the Tautological Templar doesn't have to be an extremist); and I think that it is also too close to Designated Hero.

The YKTTW appears to have been perfunctory at best, concentrating more on the name than the content.

Ok, see that post was thumped. Guess that was too close to a personal attack. Reading the trope page, it seems like the trope is a "a character who says their actions must be good because they are a good person" (despite ample evidence to the contrary of both of these things).

That does make sense and describes a lot of characters, although I'm not sure to what extent it is a trope. Don't legitimately good characters also think of themselves as doing good actions/that they are a good person?

[up] Sorry about that. Must have been thinking of another trope and shouldn't have posted that in any case. My apologies.

I think that as written it's not distinct because it's written as a character trope when the focus is actually on the justification the character gives. Thus I think we should rewrite it accordingly.
