I Am Not Shazam is more specific, and generally speaking, you should link to as specific a trope as context permits.

Either way, the Homestar Runner entry isn't an example. It has the voice actor of a Show Within a Show being unable to remember the name of the character he plays.

Homestar Runner example moved from "Can't call" to "Incorrect"; numbers changed accordingly.

I Am Not Shazam isn't necessarily more specific because Cowboy BeBop at His Computer requires examples from journalism, and I Am Not Shazam does not.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

[up]True. The Canonical List of Subtle Trope Distinctions says:

Cowboy BeBop at His Computer vs. I Am Not Shazam

  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer is about a news article that presents erroneous information about a work, often to the point where it seems they didn't read/watch the thing.
  • I Am Not Shazam concerns confusion over the title of a work and what it is supposed to represent within the work.

So they can overlap, but don't have to.

My point is the name implies the other trope instead of this one.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Bump. I think this has gone stale. Any further opinions or are we just going to spin our wheels?

Did we have a rename crowner? Otherwise, we probably should.

Yeah, a crowner will settle this.

Um, anyone can make a crowner. You don't need to tell us to do it.

Willbyr, no one did a rename crowner. Or is this intended to be for redirect farming?

Well, with these levels of misuse, maybe not renaming isn't a realistic option. Then again: lots and lots of inbounds. (I dunno, I'm in favor of renaming.)

There's no such thing as an automatic reason to rename. Or to not rename, for that matter. But adding a few good redirects never hurts, and if the rename crowner comes out positive then we can just swap with the most popular redirect. We're doing it a little backwards is all.

Not really a regular troper, but I'm in favour of keeping the current name.

Not really a regular troper, but I'm in favor of a rename. I watched some Cowboy Bebop and the name still makes no sense to me, let alone if someone is unfamiliar with the show.

All of these titles seem amazingly negative and prone to be used for bashing.

This should have been a single prop crowner first.

But I should add that the trope is negative by nature, since it's calling on newspeople who Did Not Do The Research.

It needs to do the single prop still.

Have a mod lock this one and swap with single?

There's no reason to lock it. Swap and leave it unlocked, and if the single-prop passes, swap again.
