So, with what I see as a "Halo Reborn" period, what with the new trilogy, books, etc. coming out, I was wondering what my fellow tropers would like to see in the games, ideas for new Halo games, etc.

Here's what I think would be cool:

  • Adding Brute vs. Elite invasion, Flood vs. Spartan, etc. These could be customized (Flood vs Brutes, Elites vs Flood, Brutes vs Spartans and so on)
  • Add the ability to make Firefight maps (you could designate where dropships land, tactical locations, and even troop movements)
    • Adding the ability to control NP Cs as a Spartan or Elite could be added into Firefight (or some new game mode). UNSC soldiers or aliens warriors would be dropped off as reinforcements (think about it: leading a squad of ODS Ts or Sangheili Spec-Ops into combat O_O )
  • The ability to make your own levels:
    • A "World Builder" forge would be introduced. You could raise terrain, place buildings, dig out caves, etc. The levels wouldn't be as detailed as Campaign levels, but:
      • Atmospheric and Weather could be added. For example, you could make the lighting red and hellish with smoky skies (like the beginning of Reach's "The Package"), natural and colorful with a Halo sloping up on the horizon (like a... Halo.) Rain, snow, etc. could be scripted as well (you could even make it rain ashes)
      • The level could be ground-based or up-in-the-air (taking place on a ship or other installation, like the Gas Mine in Halo 2).
      • The level could be made up of multiple worlds: going through a door, dropping down a shaft, entering a vehicle, or otherwise triggering a player-made setting would transport you to the next part (for instance, entering a Falcon or Pelican would transport you to another building or ship, meaning you "flew" there)
    • You could script events. For instance, pressing a button would trigger a pelican arriving and dropping off troops, or destroying an AA gun or other objective would trigger an air raid on a specified location, etc.

That's all I got for now, I'll post more later. Anything any of you want to see in a Halo game?

Anything any of you want to see in a Halo game?

An automatic weapon that doesn't suck in accuracy and damage and has a magazine size greater than 12 with the first two requirements.

Also marksman/sniper weapons that don't one-hit kill with only a headshot. Body shots with the Sniper Rifle killed everything in Halo Combat Evolved on even Normal mode for all but the mightiest of foes. (And fleshy unshielded foes could be downed by a hit to the chest by the pistol.) From Halo2 on, it was headshots or don't bother.

Also, a (non pump action) shotgun that doesn't suck in terms of "Can't hit shit beyond 10 feet no matter what". This is bloody 2011, we deserve better than 1990s cliche gameplay.

If every sniper rifle was like that it'd be a bit of a game breaker. To counter this, there should be several variations of the same weapon. The most common sniper rifle would be about the same as Halo 2 and onward (1 shot to the head or 2 to the body), while less common variations would be one-hit killers. This could also apply to shotguns: there would be the classic Halo short-range shotgun, shotguns with several times the range but weaker (2-3 hits to take out shield, body shot is fatal), auto-shotguns, etc.

Another thing I've been considering comes to mind: a game mode called Forerunner Fight. Instead of Mjolnir armor, the player would have combat skin, which could take way more damage. The weakest weapons you would use would be one-hit kills on Mjolnir-users (the medium-powered ones could take out several Scorpions at once), but would be like Halo 2 Magnums to Combat Skin. The game mode would be characterized by constant, blinding explosions and brutal melee attacks. It would be like Michael Bay's Transformers meets Halo.

If every sniper rifle was like that it'd be a bit of a game breaker.

Call Of Duty has done it for about 6 games straight and it's not a Game-Breaker there.

OP: so kinda like the editor in Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect? Alright, I could dig that.

One more thing I would like purely for its potential coolness factor:

There could be a setting that both changes your voice and/or garbles your voice when you play as an elite and makes your character mouth (or whatever they do) it on their mandibles. You could either speak in, uh, "Elite-ese" (like in Combat Evolved and Reach), or in a "translated" voice (like in Halo 2 and onward). Imagine, you assassinate some guy and he lies there listening to you "Hyahyahya!!!"-ing while you sprint away. It would also be good for Machinima.

[up][up]

Still, different variations of weapons would be nice

We seem to be able to fight alongside ODS Ts in Anniversary's new Firefight maps, so that should be good. Unless their AI is the same as CE's...

Wait, does that mean that if we play as Elites in Firefight, we'll be able to kill humans?
