Says you. I don't even really think that Too Soon ever ends. It's not so much that one day, in the future, 9/11 jokes will be ok. It's just that sometime, in the future, they might not get you punched in the face.
I'd still be shocked if you made a Pearl Harbor joke, for example. It just doesn't seem like something that should be made light of, no matter how long it's been...
I am now known as Flyboy.Too Soon is almost completely subjective. It's Too Soon for Jason and USAF. It's not Too Soon for me, for this particular reference, but it will always be Too Soon for me for that video clip set to Yackety Sax. None of the three of us is wrong.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I'm sorry, but that's completely unbelievable. Post 36 in this thread, opening with "I was horrified" and including the sentence "If you are trying to get across the point that you say you are, there are other ways to do it." Post 41 says "i still think its terrible. i would tell you you should die, because i really dont get your point, and why this is the best way to get it across. i dont even see what is funny about it."
How else can that be parsed but "shame on you"? How can you possibly think it is now believable to come back and say here that "not because it was offensive, but because I didn't think it was all that humorful. I didn't get the irony/hilarity of it." You openly responded as if offended, three separate times, in this very thread!
You then launched into a long-winded post on why it was "too soon" to be making such jokes and how it affects you personally. You still don't seem to get that this is a commentary on the possibility and the reality of non-Arab and indeed non-Muslim terrorism.
In short, I do not believe you have attempted to offer a valid criticism, only expressed a generalized disgust. If you were attempting to offer a valid critique then it would behoove you to be less emotional about it, and to offer your reasoning concisely on the subject in the first post, not three posts later in a long, rambling fashion that starts with a non-sequitor. And there should absolutely not be a "i would tell you you should die" anywhere in a critique!
Nous restons ici.i know i said i wouldnt respond, but sigh...
at first i was pretty offended, but less so as I was told more about the comic. If you took time to read the rest of it you would of seen what i was refering to.
and to be quite honest it was revived so 'positively' that I felt to embelish my reaction a bit to 'balance' it out so that maybe he would go a bit' more towards the 'middle of the road' in his approach. But it all does sound like in context it wouldn't be offensive, as it is a plot device from my understanding, and not a standalone comic.
The fact I was offended when I read it was because I thought at first it was a one-off comic trying to somehow make fun of extremist terrorists or something, that is where that 'there are other ways to get the point across' came from.
as of the 2nd of Nov. has 6 weeks for a broken collar bone to heal and types 1 handed and slowlyI thought it was hilarious because I had a sudden mental image of Sarah Palin as the pilot.
Warm hugs and morally questionable advice given here. Prosey BitchfestI'm not sure whether I find that highly amusing or unspeakably disturbing, Snow.
Prob'ly both.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception. It doesn't matter how offensive it is. The problem was it was intended to be serious and everyone took it as a joke.
hashtagsarestupidI'm gonna chime in here with the people who viewed the pilot's narration as the main source of unintended comedy. The "BOOM" didn't really affect me one way or the other.
Maybe try throwing in the horrified reactions from the doomed passengers on the people on ground, that should set the tone.
A Cute Litte Doll in the crash site wouldn't hurt either
hashtagsarestupidThat's, unfortunately, not gonna happen. That said, hopefully page 2 will make my intent a bit more clear... assuming that it isn't even more narmful than the last one.
haha building go boom. 9/11 was almost 10 years ago people time to start laughing at these things
-read page 2- reminds me of the "Yes, General, I am masturbating into the American Flag. It relaxes me. Do you have a problem with that? Would you rather that I used you?" page from later in transmetropolitan

Untitled Power Rangers Story
wait another generation (10-15 years), then you can make jokes. if you've watched the news any or seen all the memorial commercials, this year's 9/11 day will be the 9/11 honoring day of all time, the number 10 is important for some reason I guess. Lot's of familys that were there that day or that lost loved ones are still effected by it and probably don't think it's funny.
anyway, this topic is dying, so let's let it die. i dont think the OP meant for the parrellels to 9/11 in the way most recieved it, I think he wanted it to come off as the guy being crazy, but a lot of people saw it as being funny, which from what he said doesnt seem to be the intent.
as of the 2nd of Nov. has 6 weeks for a broken collar bone to heal and types 1 handed and slowlyPretty much.
He asked if he crossed the line. I don't know if he meant it to be funny or not, but if it is supposed to be funny, I didn't find it that funny, not because it was offensive, but because I didn't think it was all that humorful. I didn't get the irony/hilarity of it.
If it isn't supposed to be funny, that's another matter. To be honest, I only found is mildly offensive. And I am not on a "soap box", I never said "shame on you", I was saying 'this is likely to offend at least a sizable group of people, and if you do it, you should be prepared for their reponses, because some people will not find it funny out of context.'
He said there was some plot to it all between extremists and the government, so I can only assume it all makes sense and isn't all that offensive in context. I still do not get out of context why he chose this specific way to show it though.
Even now we are living with the effects of the war on terror. It isn't mind blowing that some people would be uneasy about it's portrayal in the media when we still have soldiers abroad. Just a while ago a chopper (chinook specifically?) full of 20 some navy seals was shot down. Those are some of our most badass special forces out there. That's a big loss for a special forces of only like 1 or 2 thousand (dont qoute me on those numbers)
That wasn't some soap box, but yours came off as one. If you have something else to say, say it, because I'm not going to get involved in a flame war. He asked if he crossed the line, and I gave my opinion.
edit: sorry meant "came off as one" no "up as one"
