I wouldn't. I've been on that kind of suckering end before. My last part-time job consisted of my boss calling me to tell me my hours... until 3 months later, where he kept telling me to call him, and then kept telling me that he'd call me back... but I never did get a call back.

You want a job where you do everything and get paid nothing? That's pretty easy to do: just be self-employed.

I did read the ending, but given that the story was about the previous job I just assumed you were talking about that.

A White Cis Hetero Male Power Fantasy

Heh... from what we've seen of her father, that doesn't entirely surprise me.

Huh. I hadn't been reading the Penny Arcade newsposts, but this is probably the source of the particular terminology being used, if not the reason for the comic.

Rationally, I know that Cora's father is courting assault charges for this, but damn if I didn't inwardly cheer...

Depending on how he set up the contract, of course, he may not have much legal recourse. And, if he essentially let Cora do what she wanted, trusting her to protect his interests, well, she kind of sold him up the river here.

Well choosing whether or not a later PVP rebalancing (via patches etc.) applies to single-player is that no way is fully satisfactory:

  • If you apply them to single-player, you have to re-test all single-player levels to check whether it's still playable the way it was meant to.
  • If you don't, players who move on to multiplayer after single-player with be surprised of the changes.
Most of the games where I've seen rebalancing chose the latter route but applied the changes to the Expansion Pack's single-player mode. Also, they all offer a "vs. computer" mode that uses multiplayer mechanics.

So I've been reading this comic since near the start of Season 2 and I'm thinking of dropping it. It's stopped being funny and honestly, the characters suck nowadays, especially Cora who was a nice yet bluntly honest girl and now she's just a bitch.

Anyone else feel this way?

I don't agree about Cora (frankly she's a saint given who she's dealing with) but I do agree that it's just not that funny anymore. I think it got too caught up in continuity and can't handle that.

Considering she's gone from saying that she likes Q and that he's super nice to being all "HE'S A FUCKING KNOW IT ALL JAGOFF AND I LOVE TO FUCK WITH HIM" (Paraphrasing somewhat), that doesn't sound like something a nice person would do, plus all the lying and shit she did when she first saw how the game was going to the testers.

Still not as bad as Gwen though. I'm just going to drop this comic, it's stopped being funny and I don't really like any of the characters anymore, not even in a "god this character is a douche but they're funny" way.

[up]She was being forced into a position that she didn't like, and now that she has a bit more control and has seen how much of a dick Q has become, she's taking delight in undermining him. Is that really wrong?

Kind of, yeah. Plus like I said, she brought the team a box with a half eaten pizza with what look like a hair of some kind on it. Not to mention that when Cora sees how bad Q's setup is, she pretty much betrayed her "I fight for the users." principles and lies to her co-workers about it.

She was written as the nice Only Sane Man, now she's really not that good at being either anymore in my opinion.

Pretty much the only reasons I'm still reading are to see how further Isaac can collapse and when Gwen ripping off the game will be discovered.

Oh, and the stories.

So... did I miss something? Is the comic on hiatus or over?

At last The Trenches has returned to the Internet. I still have no idea why they briefly ceased.

I imagine it's tough to find people to run your comic when they won't get any credit on the homepage and will be placed below the people who hired them on the "About the Authors" page if said page is ever updated.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
