Greetings, denizens of Writer's Block. Welcome to the Fifth TV Tropes Writing Contest!

This time around, we have six themes. You will be asked to combine two or more in your entry.

Themes:

As usual, the rules are:

  • One entry per troper.
  • Must be original (no fanfics).
  • 2000-5000 words. For the sake of consistency, please use this to verify your word count.

Deadline: October 7, midnight Pacific time. If we don't have seven entries by this time, it will be extended in increments of three days until we do.

When your story is complete, upload it to Free Text Host. Do not include your name or list the themes you combined anywhere on the document, as judging is anonymous. PM the URL to me and tell me your themes. When I pass on the entries to the judges, they will get the themes in spoiler text.

Stories will be judged thusly, total of 25 points:

  • 5 points: Conventions (spelling and grammar)
  • 5 points: Theme (how well you combined the themes into a good story; whether or not your entry is within the required word count of 2000-5000)
  • 15 points: The piece as a whole

  • jewelleddragon
  • chihuahua 0

I'm in. Though, as usual, no idea how the hell I'm supposed to fit the theme. Bah.

I don't have an idea yet, but I'll hopefully have something before the contest ends.

Having a literal fairy counts as a fairy tale?

[up][up][up][up]Actually, good point. While I definitely wouldn't say that having a fairy automatically makes it have a Fairy Tale theme (what if it's just another monster called fairy?), I can't think of any criteria about it.

Any help here, Snowfox?

For those of you wondering about fairy tales, Wikipedia is your friend.

Actually, given the nature of fairy tales, depending on what you do with it, you might slip by with less than 2000 words.

So, the fairy tale theme means I have to write a fairy tale.

...why am I surprised?

You don't have to write a fairy tale, just include them in the story in some meaningful way.

I might possibly enter this. I love Grimm's fairy tales and have an idea I've been meaning to bounce around.

[up] You just have to be willing to read and judge eight entries or so with prejudice. Meaning: Look for the good, but hone onto the bad. If you get a variety of scores, you're good.

I'm considering whatever to enter this time or judge again. Was I a good judge?
