Hipsters at least have some sort of cause. I admire that.

And London is not much of a craphole. It has good art.

Is London that bad or something? I've only been to Wembley, once.

The American South does have good food. And people are generally pretty nice as long as you don't insult their religion.

Fighteer is not the only mod keeping an eye on this thread,by the way.

Now, allow me to lay down a couple of some rules:

  • If your post spends more space putting down what you're posting about than saying something positive about it, it will be thumped for being stealth complaining. Example: "Hitler may have been a genocidal maniac caused a world war and he was crazy to boot and had a stupid mustache, but he liked dogs."

  • If your "positive" is phrased only as a lack of a negative, it will be thumped as stealth complaining. Example: "Hitler didn't rape babies."

  • Announcing that you don't have anything positive to say about a thing will be thumped as stealth complaining. Example: "Hitler. Um, Hitler. Yeah, sorry, I got nothing."

The above rules are not all-inclusive. There are other ways of stealth complaining, and the mods can spot them. They will also be thumped. The point of this thread is to set aside the demonization of things we hate long enough to find something positive in them.

Modern capitalism is very successful at creating large amounts of wealth. Soviet communism created a modern industrial state in the USSR, good healthcare and welfare services and did a lot for the equality of women.

Live Action The Golden Compass movie: The scenes that were faithful to the book(which I like) were actually done really well. Whoever did Lyra was a perfect fit for her character and her acting was actually pretty good. Especially the parts with the bears.

Kinect: As a piece of technology, it's actually pretty amazing. And the non-official things done by fans of the this thing is actually pretty cool. And in terms of innovation, it's far superior than the PS 3 Move.

Rott, read Maddy's post. A "This and this and this and this is bad... but hey, nice hat" type post is the sort of thing that will get this oh-so-lockable thread locked.

Long story short, just say he had a nice hat.

9mm NATO Ammo. While not well suited to combat, the ammo is cheap, common, and is good for hobby shooting. The lack of power means the round can be fired on a greater variety of ranges and environs. It is one of the reasons it is used in military pistols in non-military environments where over penetration is a safety concern.

Sometimes the posts which spend more time complaining in this thread than praising seem more honest because you're not being stealthy about complaining, you are being upfront and sometimes what problem you have with something can heighten the positive aspect.

Yes, I recognise some irony there but bear in mind, the point is that overall I don't like those posts.

Troper Tales- always irrelevant (not a big problem), often disturbing and ridiculous, but sometimes those posts that really stuck to the trope provided some interesting illuminatino. Like the time I used an example from the Troper Tales of Ensign Newbie to create a general example for lawyers. Or the time we renamed Fonzerelli Fix to Percussive Maintenance- the consensus was weak until someone pointed out the large number of Troper Tales where people could point to real life situations where it was called as such.

The Mae Ji we have at Wat Suddhavasa is treated very kindly and with great respect. While normally they typically serve as glorified maids who have to pay their way towards existing ours is treated more like a Bhikkhuni would be. She may not be taking the 311 Vinaya of a Bhikkhuni, but she does learn, study, meditate, chant, offer advice, and participate in ceremonies. She also isn't expected to pay for her own expenses even though she does not work work and lives off donations just like the Bhikkhu. She is a very important part of the wat and a lovely woman.

Situations like these soften my views on the Mae Ji system. I would still love for true Bhikkhuni to become more of a widespread thing in Thailand, but there are times when it can do much good for the Bhikkhu, Mae Ji, and laymen involved.

Without the Mae Ji system we would not have her in a position like this at all. I am very grateful that we do.

^^ Yeah but it's kinda assumed you generally hate whatever it is you're praising, and it sounds too negative and Damned by Faint Praise-ish.

Pay To Play MMORP Gs: They often get patches updating the game, so ideally it never gets old. And if the game existed long enough, it will no doubt have a large enough playerbase to interact with. And while GIFT will exist in such games, there will always be people who try to avert GIFT.
