Thumped: for switching the discussion from the topic to a person. Doesn't take many of this kind of thump to bring a suspension. Stay on the topic, not the people in the discussion.

You apparently missed that article about base management. Gay Australian scientist and other colorful crew members, having to choose between three kinds of missions, that kind of things.

As long as it's not another stupid "shove me through a long curvy tube" shooter (see: Bullshitstorm, Moron Warfare 33 1/3, Narrative Crysis), I'm okay with that. Even if it doesn't go above R6 Vegas (and it does). And I have similar feelings towards Redlime too. Original Syndicate was pretty much Cannon Fodder with a strategic layer (and kinda half-assed one) thrown in. A Wide-Open Sandbox isn't a bad choice, especially if the missions are varied.

Yes, I missed that, because I only have the devs word that it's present with no specifics (that is NEVER a good sign).

The game world IS a tube.

Ever play SWAT 4?

SWAT 4 didn't make officers expendable like the traditional shadowy chessmaster's pawns.

Actually SWAT 4's AI is a very good reason it's a bad idea...

Haven't played it, though the trope page makes it sound like you can't sacrifice pawns (characters are unique)

There's no reason to believe it won't be like in Brutal legend where you can zoom out (or fly on hell wings, in BL's case) to get a better view of things and manage the troops before jumping back in for some murderous fun.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

Just to nitpick, Syndicate predates Cannon Fodder by two years.

[up][up] Oh hell no. The battles in Brutal Legend are a brutal, legendary pain in the ass. I can never get it right.

Also, of the "tactical FPS" games, I played only Rainbow Six, which either allows you to plan out before the mission (the old ones) or has the options severely limited (Vegas). I can't see the first solution work in Redlime and the second one, well, is barely tactical.

Also, getting new agents in Syndicate was a pain in the ass. Not to mention the completely broken Persuadertron that caused you to drag hordes of people along as cannon fodder.

Oh dear. I'm more worried by the paradox version, if I have to start managing how many bullets I fire its going to be a bit of a Pit A.

I like the Skrillex music and all, but this seems like a DXHR-like more than a sequel to Syndicate. With what seems to be even more (traditional, non-RPG hybrid) FPS elements than DXHR. Thoughts?

The DXHR-comparison is inevitable, considering how much the aesthetics of the ORIGINAL Syndicate are similar to what DXHR used. It's Fallout 3 all over again, when people complained that it "ruined the setting" (because in actuality it was closer to Fallout 1 than the fan-favorite Fallout 2 - for proof, go no further than 1's intro movie) despite actually being dead-right true to it.

I'd like to wait before passing judgement, preferrably until there's more data available. From what the GT.tv material shows, it's more Bio Shock-like than DXHR-like, as the DART chip lets the player (who, it seems, will be an AFGNCAAP, as the unfaceless dude in the promo screenshots has been revealed to be the mentor figure) hack not only into other people's CHIPs, but also into their guns, and other items in the environment. Time will tell how well that can be done, as I, for one, will welcome it wholeheartedly if it ultimately goes down the road the Wheel Of Time game went.

Also: the AR aspect seems to follow the Dead Space formula, with all the necessary HUD elements popping up as holo-projections, except that this time around, only YOU can see them.

P.S. Yes, the Skrillex track is unexpectedly awesome. I blame the quality of the source material, however.

[up] Re: Fallout, I don't entirely agree. Fallout 3 had a large degree of what some called "silliness" that fit more with how Fallout 2 handled things than Fallout 1. If I had to make a comparison, Fallout 3 = Fallout 2, and Fallout New Vegas = Fallout 1.

There's certainly room to argue, though. And I liked all four games.

[up]Fallout New Vegas = Wasteland, and that's final. Granted, it's inevitable when you make a Fallout game in the same area, but it DOES lift certain parts of Wasteland wholesale.

Well, most complaints I've seen about 3 was that it wasn't enough like 2, i.e. lacking wanton sex, violence and potty humour.

Back on track: The promise of a dedicated co-op campaign based on the original game's missions is what interests me the most about Syndicate, actually. If done well, it can be hyper-awesome.

This is a surprising but wholeheartedly awesome pieces of news. I used to play the Mega Drive version of Syndicate a lot and enjoyed it immensely. I still shiver at the sound of that ominous and catchy theme which plays when enemies attack you, and I have fond memories of the brutal yet epic Atlantic Accelerator mission. This new game looks promising from what the trailers have shown us so far. smile
