It was okay, nothing to arm yourself to the teeth to defend it against criticism.
I saw it.
So Okay, It's Average to me
Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp do what they do best.
William Ficthner was a fine villain.
Though the violence surprised me a bit.
I also retract my statement earlier in this thread. Thankfully this movie is a straight western with supernatural elements implied but never actually there.
Overall an ok film. Not that bad but not great either
I'm on Youtube Reviewing Things Cause I can.I'm somewhat tempted to see this, if only because I've really been getting into the Western genre lately.
Thunder, Thunder, Thunder...For those who don't want to see it, but are curious about the criticisms on how it portrays Natives, here's a review that focuses on that issue:

My alignment is Chaotic Cute.Eh, I'll just keep reading All-Star Western with Jonah Hex then.

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder...Oh, well. Maybe I'll rewatch Rango or something.
Looking for some stories?I just heard on the radio it made only 9 Million dollars on opening weekend.
To a 200 million dollar budget, Not counting the marketing budget!
Ouch.
Watch SymphogearSo it's the next John Carter?
Didn't it come out only yesterday? It's not a good number, but I think it's still too early to make any calls. Plus, I don't know if Fourth of July is a great day for the box office.

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder...No.
It's much worse financially than John Carter.
And much, much worse off critically.
Well, at least their version of the William Tell Overture is kickass.

Looking for some stories?Let's be clear, 9 million opening day, not opening weekend. And for a Wednesday that's not that bad and there is the entire Fourth of July weekend to build up steam. But I think this is a movie everyone is expected to lose money on, the budget is ridiculous for the concept. It should be a buddy cop type of film.
Apparently the budget ballooned because the director threw a tantrum and demanded that he be allowed to use real trains and practical effects.
Gotta admit, that William Tell theme is badass.
@Mort: Rango was a great film.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThat's why I thought this thing had potential.
Looking for some stories?Based on reviews, I think the main problems that many critics take issue with is that it's overlong, features way too much stuff that isn't important, and is jarring in tone and violence.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectYeah, from the sound of things, this is a case of terrible editing resulting in a sum that is much worse than its parts. I watched Cinema Snob's impressions video and it seems like each individual scene on its own could be good, but not when strung together.
Thunder, Thunder, Thunder...Yeah. The best review I read said "It tries to be every genre and ends up pleasing nobody". In particular, they said it can't decide if it's a gritty, deconstruction of westerns (since it's incredibly gorey and deals with racism and genocide during the era) or just a vapid, funny popcorn film. Pretty much every review I've read cited one jarring instance where the movie cuts from a brutal massacre of a Native American tribe, complete with blood and horrific violence to a scene with Tonto goofing around and cracking jokes at the horse.
Okay, just saw it with family. Verdict: It's not that bad. Nothing mindblowing and too long if you ask me, with some really jarring war scenes that make for some mood whiplash. Overall, it's Po C set in the Wild West, and you can make of that what you will.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimEven if it doesn't do well in US, I have an impression that overseas market will cover everything. But what do I know, four years ago I predicted that Avatar would bomb.
I thought it was good. Not great, but good.
For me, the Mood Whiplash is a benefit rather than a pitfall; keeps the story from getting boring. For a two and a half hour movie, this thing whizzed by.
"It takes an idiot to do cool things, that's why it's cool" - Haruhara HarukoDammit! Why does every action movie these days have to be so damn long?!??
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Seems like the reaction from the public is turning into 'Well, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.'
I'm still savin' my summer money for Pacific Rim, but I won't bag on anyone who liked this. Mileage and all that.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWell that's a take on the movie I haven't heard before. Points for originality...I guess?
