...or...maybe not.
Ooooh, boy. We have a rought road ahead of us...
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. So, the result of the previous voting simply gets ignored?
Unfortunately; the winning images won simply because they were aesthetically pleasing. They did not showcased the meaning of the trope properly.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.I personally love number three it has that element of romance in it almost a like a Love Confession was about to happen. Not what really happens but it is a fated meeting. With a caption of "The who can only see things in a bad light meets the girl who can only see things in a positive light" to quote the actual Yellow Boxes of that scene.
It has all the elements really needed for an image the blooming and falling blossoms add a feeling of Spring Romance and such.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!#2 or #3 of the SZS pics are my favs of the bunch...hard to decide between them.

#3 gets my vote. Once I work out how to not vote for "1."

If all we need is falling petals the current picture more than suffices.
Please. The article tells us how Cherry Blossoms are useed in media:
- Gathering at hanami , which often entails picnics and drinking with old friends under the cherry trees.
- Symbol of love and romance
- Symbol of death
- new beginning
- "Sakura" is a commen japanese name
The image selected in the last IP shows the Scenery Porn part. Thus sowing one of the possible uses.
To be honest I think we should first find out what the page wants to be. Is it like Phone Booth just a collection of the different use of the object in media? Then a mostly neutral image is Ok.
Or do we want to make it a "real" trope, focusing on the symbolism? Then we should split the page, there is a huge difference between the peaceful event of family and friends meeting under blooming threes, the romantic meeting of two lovers and rotten bodys.

Thinking about it, I agree, there's quite a difference between the romantic meeting, the friends and family meeting, and the Scenery Porn versions of the trope. Hell, I'd say the hanami at least should be a trope on its own.
I remember having posted in the former thread a suggestion for the second kind (the friends' meeting one; plus in the pic, one of them is sketching the trees): [1]◊
EDIT: Aaaand I just found a great one for the hanami version of the trope: [2]◊

"Your kindness gives me the presentiment I can be reborn. Now, I want to believe at least in you." - Kaori YaeA Hanami [1] "flower viewing" is a trope of its own IMO its not always Sakura as Ume blossoms (Chinese Plum) are in this as well. That appears in Love Hina, Azumanga Daioh and a ton of other works.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!So, do we need to make Cherry Blossoms a supertrope for the two major distinctions, or discuss them separately under the page?
I'd say that hanami is enough of a thing to have its own subtrope, it happens all the time in anime.
Yeah there is a difference between symbolism in a scene if its Spring, Samurai to a lesser extent showing "This Is Japan" to the point of actual weather effects in video games, and/or she is Japanese (Reimi Saionji in Star Ocean The Last Hope gets Sakura flying for her Chaotic Blossoms attack), Sakura Girl, death (Never actually seen that last one)
Vs actually going on a picnic while watching the blossoms fall (and a good chance of getting drunk on Sake)

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Sounds to me like "Cherry Blossoms is a supertrope with at least three subtropes:
- blooming romance
- death
- "springtime" (This one would not be Japanese-works-specific)
Other subtropes I've missed?
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it."This is Japan or japanese" Like the star ocean example from my post above or like Samurai in games appear with these like Final Fantasy X 2 they appear when you switch to the Samurai job. as well as Yojimbo in Final Fantasy X. Samurai Warriors goes crazy with these in battlefields, As well as Kessen 1 and 3, Onimusha and well really any other game set in historical japan. (If it features Toyotomi Hideyoshi its going to appear no matter what)
Hell the whole plot of Onimusha Dawn Of Dreams revolves around Hideyoshi planting the trees all around Japan (historically true) but they are demonic trees that when they bloom will kill those around it then send that energy to create demons to be used against Korea.(in the game) so the heroes try and burn them.(never did beat the game but I assume they become normal at the end of the game.)
And Hanami

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Still, we are ignoring the result of the crowner. I say change the current image to the crowner's winner, which is this one◊, while we decide if it should be split or not.
I think we really need a TRS thread about this to figure out what the trope is before we can pick an image.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI agree with that, but the image I posted was the one that won the crowner from the previous thread.
Here it is, with the borders cropped and on 350px.

That's not this trope as has been said before.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!It's the Scenery Porn bit of this trope. No one seems to have completely narrowed down the definition save that there are about eight different versions.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickEvery version of the trope is them falling or flying in the wind... Even the Scenery Porn. This trope isnt "Cherry Blossom Trees".
That pic doesn't have that at all.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!But it won the crowner, and since we already have this thread open, we should put that image until there is a new one picked through general consensus.
A crowner based on misunderstanding the trope if it doesnt show the trope it should be pulled... the current one does show the trope although its really hard to see the petals.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!
Alright, to summarize: The original discussion was started to address clarity problems with the current pic, but many of the images that were suggested (and the ones which were leading the old crowner) were just pics of blooming cherry trees and didn't address the actual trope - namely, the use in a scene of blooming cherry trees, and especially the falling petals, to add emotional context. The old thread was closed per mod instruction, so let's see if we can get something hammered out now. Here are the pics from the old crowner which actually address the trope (some might not do it as well as others):
Anime girls◊
Discuss.
