Nothing I'm gonna say will convince anyone here otherwise
Chiefly because you've said nothing that resembles a convincing argument, instead opting for hilariously baseless comparisons and wildly overblown strawmen, and refusing to back even those up with anything of substance.

You're like "There is some good to be had here," and the others are like "okay, where?" and you're just not following through. Meet us halfway, would you?

I wouldn't be posting at this forum if I didn't think it a necessary step.

Would anyone support a zero tolerance policy towards for posts that get too friendly with the idea of CP and lolicon, etc?

I'd support this for main wiki pages too, but this is about deleting TT, which I would prefer.

That subject should be taken to another thread. I'd also support it, but we don't to derail this one.

"1. It discourages new members. You've all seen the creepy stuff in the troper tales archives, and it tends to make outsiders think we're all like that. Thus, a lot of potential members get scared away." I don't know actually have the numbers, but can someone who does please provide them and thus.. validate or invalidate this example?
I dunno about numbers (how would one gather those?) but we do have some anecdotal data from at least one poster earlier in this thread (who mentioned being terrified by Troper Tales).

Not to mention a particular, not-to-be-named Youtube series, the comment replies to which demonstrating plenty of people who are... disconcerted with the state of the content in our Troper Tales section.

I wouldn't be posting at this forum if I didn't think it a necessary step.

Last post I'm making in this topic.

@152: See, the thing is, I know any arguments I make will be shot down. Especially since I'm not good at arguing points anyway. Anyone else wanna try their luck, someone perhaps more persuasive and not tired, go right ahead. I'm bowing out here.

Like I said, Troper Tales as it stands makes me embarrassed to admit that I'm a troper.

I wouldn't have stuck around if it was the first thing I saw.

I'd like some real numbers though, like say what if someone saw one of those TF 2 TT and were like "Ohh, hey, Tropers are pretty cool people"

It's really kind of rude to complain about how people are unfair and won't listen to your arguments if you haven't made any arguments and don't intend to try.

This is like the Nakama rename.

I could live if either outcome was met but it's just so beautiful to see such a big change being made with so little fuss or drama.

I never said anyone's unfair. I am not persuasive nor am I good at arguing. I'm done. End of my contribution to the discussion, which was zero to begin with.

You guys probably don't need any more reasons, but I'll list them anyway.

1) The redesign doesn't work.

2) The "badge of honor" tropes are still fatally flawed, and only seem to consist of people who have a low standard for things that are impressive/terrible/inconsequential. It's to TT what IANMTU was to the main wiki.

3) Youtube's public perception. The web-series-that-shall-not-be-named currently has a collective total of close to 400,000 views (more than three times this site's "official" series). When you search for "TV Tropes" on Youtube, the "crazy" series comprises the first five pages of results.

4) TT has led to massive amounts of users explaining (via TT entries) that they have self-diagnosed medical disorders which cause them to act the way they do. Is that something we want our user base to be viewed as?

5) There's still an influx of natter/creepiness/borderline-illegal confessions that permeate TT. Whether or not it's just a made-up story or true doesn't matter - it's harming our reputation.

6) The perception that you can't edit the examples of other users is still active (meaning walls of text and lots of rambling).

If it's possible to procure such numbers I could not begin to know how. It's almost certainly a safe assumption that the bad anecdotes far outweigh the good, however, even within this very site.

And everything crazyrabbit said. The whole "My crowning moment of awesome is an achievement of utter mediocrity on paper" entries are nearly as annoying to read as the creepy shit.

Doesn't it also have like ten times as many episodes?

If you can't even prove this point outside of anecdotal evidence, then don't put it as a major point to removing Troper Tales.

^ Yes. Most of the episodes get anywhere from 2,000 - 5,000 hits a piece (with the older ones garnering upwards of 10,000 hits). There's a lot of discussion present in those videos that I believe we should mindful of.

Okay, I'm feeling masochistic enough to bite. Here's my plan: I hit a few randomly selected Troper Tales, read them through, and count up the number of productive entries relative to the common failure modes (braggadocio, triviality, creepiness, et cetera). Then I report the numbers back to you.

You think ten pages of Troper Tales would give a large enough sample size?

I will keep my soul in a place out of sight, Far off, where the pulse of it is not heard.

I am also of the opinion that deleting Troper Tales would go a long way towards finally finishing off This Troper (as in the phrase/meme, that is). As I've said before, I think in large part it still exists because new posters find it and assume it's an accepted part of wiki culture rather then something we're trying to kill Deader than Dead. And it's still enough of a problem on Troper Tales that a whole forum thread was started over it.

Killing This Troper alone isn't a reason to cut Troper Tales, but I think it would certainly be a side benefit.

Comparing people to religious fanatics or nuclear terrorists kind of implies unfairness. So does insisting they won't listen to you no matter what you say.

I'll add to crazyrabbit's list that I've seen a decent amount of Troper Tales that contained downright offensive stuff ("This Troper wonders if there are any [men/women/gays/other group] who don't [insert unpleasant trope here]", etc.)

^^^ Great idea. I'm not being sarcastic, that could really help prove our point.

How about you try not to do pages This Troper already covered?
