AD 1029: Alp Arslan, son of the Seljuk Turkish leader Chaghri Beg, is born. He'll grow up to become ruler of the Seljuk Empire, including practically all of Persia and much of Asia Minor, and his armies will generally ruin a lot of people's days.
1030 AD: King Olaf II dies in battle against his pagan vassals; the Catholic Church responds by canonizing him as Saint Olaf and Rex perpetuum Norvegiae.
A.D. 1031: The Byzantine general George Maniaces retakes the major Christian archbishopric of Edessa from its Arab occupiers.

- Upon the death of Harthacnut (Hardecanute), Edward the Confessor is crowned king of England.
1043 AD
- Per Igbo tradition, Eze Nri Ifikuanim becomes the first king of Nri, which is now part of West Africa. Nri was noted for being a safe haven for those rejected by their own tribes and escaped slaves.
- Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar born in Castile. He will go on to become El Cid.
1044 Pope Benedict IX is forced out of office and replaced by Pope Sylvester III. Sylvester's reign only lasted 21 days before Benedict regained the papacy.

- King Macbeth of Scotland makes a pilgrimage to Rome. This somehow fails to get into the Shakespeare version of his life story.
- The brewery of Weltenburg Abbey is first mentioned. Beer drinkers rejoice. (This brewery is still in operation, making it one of the oldest continually producing beer sites in existence.)
1026 AD: Pietro Barbolano becomes Doge of Venice
