Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Though I've always hated this argument that nothing is truly original because it takes inspiration in something else. "Star Wars is just a bunch of 20th century serials mashed together" is like saying "Shakespeare's works were just a mis-mash of Greek tragedies".
"All you Fascists bound to lose."It is. Talk to someone who studies Shakespeare, and they'll say exactly the same thing.
It's what Shakespeare did with the preexisting stories that's special.
Anyway, Star Wars is, above all, a textbook hero's journey. It may draw its trappings from various other sources, but its core plot is one of the oldest that humanity tells.
I don't see why "everything comes from somewhere else" and "it's possible to create original works" are mutually exclusive.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Nor are they bad things.
The first Star Wars movie is just utterly predictable. It's not bad, but what made it special is the scale of it.
Question: Anyone feel like we're giving Batroc too much credit in the Winter Soldier page? I mean, he got obliterated. He wasn't on even footing with Cap.
My various fanfics. He did surprisingly well until Cap put away his shield. And I've seen that scene several times. Obliterated was everyone else on the ship against Cap. From the looks of it, Batroc was mostly pushing Cap back with kicks, forcing him to keep behind his shield. Once Cap put his shield away, it let him use his arms more. Batroc's a legs person, Cap's an arms person. And Cap has stronger arms.

Creating a work of art isn't about making sure nobody has ever tread the same ground you're walking on. It's about what you do with the ground you're treading.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.The difference between Eragon and Star Wars was that by the time Eragon came out, Star Wars was such a huge pop culture force that people immediately noticed it was just Star Wars with "star cruiser" swapped out for "dragon."
I thought of him as a One-Scene Wonder. The only reason it's really notable is they managed to make him really cool despite the fact that he's usually considered a massive joke in the comics.
Hard to be taken serious when your title is "The Leaper".
Or have a handlebar mustache.
Idris Elba says Marvel already has an actor signed on for Luke Cage. I wonder if they plan to announce something at NYCC next month since the Daredevil cast is supposed to be there.
Hope it's Terry Crews.
Also, I hope Heimdall gets to be a big contributor to Thor 3. I love teaming Thor and Heimdall in Lego Marvel Super Heroes.
They need a Power Mobile.
I tend to just be Dormammu allied with a second Dormammu, but I fly around NYC as Vulture.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I think when Heroes for Hire was just them, they used Danny's limo. Though Luke would probably rather take the subway.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatJust wanted to say that Pedro Pascal would be my pick for Doctor Strange if I had a choice.
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."
And a couple samurai films, maybe a few episodes of Space Battleship Yamato depending on when Lucas made his trip to Japan. Oh, and The Dam Busters.
