The Second paragraph can go but the The Third and Fourth paragraph is really needed on the page.
Thats the variation in the trope that's the social and scholastic pressure that Anime, Manga and Video Games deals with and why they are treated as a damn good thing (almost always the parent comes out in the right at the end of the story.) The Reason for Cram Schools etc.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!No, the third and fourth paragraph can definitely go on the analysis page as well. This trope isn't exclusive, to East Asian families, so there's no need for 3 paragraphs focus on them. Not only that but it's not adding anything relevant to the trope description. Trope descriptions should describe the trope, not much else.
Its a completely different thing to Japanese Anime, Manga and Video Games... it can be cut down to 1 single paragraph but not the entire thing. Different cultures do it differently and those examples are treated different.. and those examples are on the page.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Then it should describe how it's used in those forms of media, and not get into the history of educational value in east Asian culture.

History isn't important enough to go on the main page, if it's about historical value, stick it on the Analysis page.
Fight smart, not fair.Agreed with above.
Visit my contributor page to assist with the "I Like The Cheeses" project! So can we get to cutting? History lessons and such can go on the analysis page or a useful note. So if someone want to describe how this trope is used in types of media they're free to do so but as of now most of it's gotta go on a different section.

useful notes and analysis pages are not anything alike and are not meant to be anything alike. Don't dump useful notes on Analysis.
Either cut it or stick it on Analysis. It's not part of the trope. It really doesn't belong there.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAlright, I left the tidbit about this being a stereotype for East Asian families but I cut the rest. It's was just a history lesson. If there is a significant difference in how this trope is used in Japanese media then is should be mentioned in the trope description, and if someone wants to make a useful notes, well the info is in the history.
Can we add something about Cram School (thats one of the tools that is used by these mamas) as well as a thing social and governmental pressure for their kids to do well? IE that if they dont pass middle school exams to get into High School they could be working at menial jobs like fast food at the age of 14 (No second chances) or the Kid could become a modern Rōnin if he fails College exams.
That's all I think is needed there.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!No it doesen't need to be there, the reasen why a mother is like this is not important.

Well, we should probably put a quip about Cram School but not much after that, this is about the parents not society or government.
The reason why not important? wtf that is quite needed.... (History and crap no that is not needed.)
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!No the reason is not important, she could be worried about her child future or her reputation as mother, maybe she has high standarts she wants her child to fulfill or she is from a culture where this kind of behavior is it expected from a mother. She could use her child to fulfill her own dreams or she thinks her child is giftet and she doesn't want this to be wasted...

There's been a request to lock this thread, as finished.
Is everyone agreed that this can be locked?

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Its the reason why these are treated differently in media though for the japanese this is the norm, to be that crazy about its abnormal in most of the rest of the world.
Just something like "The mama may involve a Cram School. Due to the way the school system works if the kid doesn't pass middle school exams to get into High School they could be working at menial jobs like fast food at the age of 14 (No second chances) or the Kid could become a modern Rōnin which is a source or ridicule, If their kid gets into college they stop caring. so this trope carries different connotations to eastern societies."

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!This trope is about the parents not the children, so that's just unneeded information. What makes the portrayal of an Education Mama in Japanese media different from other media?

All the discussion about East Asian school system and Confucianism are not necessary when it comes to the trope itself. It is a nice look at this trope in Asian context, but it is to longwinded and it creates the wrong impression this trope is limited to East Asian parants.
Instead of having all this information on description page itself we should move it to the analysis page.
