It stuck me more as a Genre Savvy kind of thing, Strange recognizing the Obviously Evil effect going on with Kaecilius. Kind of like how Poe at the beginning of The Force Awakens mocked his opponent wearing a big black face mask of evil. Plus, Strange clearly wasn't banking solely on "look how evil you look" as his only rebuttal, as he points immediately after that Kaecilius is a murderer.
Yeah, still got my fingers crossed for that. I'd still say he was underused in this movie, though.
Technically, Kaecillius is still alive, he's just in the Shadow Realm.
"It takes an idiot to do cool things, that's why it's cool" - Haruhara HarukoYou know, the cape really could have caught that spear before it hit Strange.
So, anyone want to talk about that No Way Home end credits scene? Was that actually the Strange Supreme from the What If series?! Or a different evil Strange?
I missed the part where that's my problem. It didn't look like Strange Supreme. The color scheme is all wrong. Plus, last we checked Strange Supreme wasn't evil morally bankrupt any more.
My money's on nightmare/magical illusion/hallucination Strange has that they put in the trailer to drum up hype for something that isn't the way it looks, just like Evil Rey in TROS.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I thought it was Strange Supreme because he had the same distorted voice effect and greyish skin hue.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Yeah I don't really see it being Strange Supreme either. I feel like the only reason anyone thinks that is because he's also Benedict Cumberbatch, but... that'd be true for almost any Strange variant? And if it is Strange Supreme, the multiverse has bigger things to worry about, but said bigger things don't feel like they'd fit a Doctor Strange movie at all.
NOMUUUUUUUURAAAAAAAA!!! >:(It's clearly an evil Strange - but not necessarily the same evil Strange...
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Which big eyed green tentacle monster was that in the trailer?
The speculation is Shuma-Gorath (or at least some related creature).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Big news if true.
The leaked Lego sets say otherwise, but they've been wrong before (They named it another Marvel tentacle monster). It certainly looks like a dead ringer for Shuma Gorath.

Okay so regarding Mordo saying "the greatest threat to the universe, is you" I imagine that's not actually related to the appearence of a second Strange and instead just Mordo passing judgment on Strange and declaring themselves enemies. The second Strange could be literally anything taking Strange's form, a reflection of some internal part of strange, or a non big-bad varient.
The evil Strange might be, like, Nightmare or something. A villain unrelated to any "Evil Strange" concept but who takes Strange's form for one reason or another at some point in the movie. They might have slipped that into the trailer to be deliberately misleading.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.@ The Tentacle Monster
It doesn't seem to be Shuma. The one in the trailer is in a LEGO set, named something differently, and someone in the MCU thread did the research and verified it's a completely different character from the Dr. Strange comics.
Which is just fine, because Shuma isn't a random tentacle guy. He's way more than just some rampaging monster to be beaten up on the street.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Could it be the big tentacle monster that kept popping up in episodes of What If? That thing was mistaken for Shuma-Gorath a couple times.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Aye, I would expect the big bad of this to be Shurma or Nightmare. I wouldn't expect a doctor strange varient to get top bad guy billing and I wouldn't expect this film to even have much room for a villionous strange varient.
Prolly a real mindfuck type bad guy especially since Wanda is involved. A lotta potential emotional trauma here.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That is the only time I've ever wondered if Shuma is actually happening, because the monster in What If actually looks like Shuma, is established to be the top dog in the interdimensional matrix, and the series goes out of its way to ensure we never get a good look at it.
In contrast, the one in the Strange trailer looks nothing like Shuma, looks like a different character, is named after a different character, and so probably is a different character.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. The reason I said that I think it's Shuma, is when I watched the teaser, it looked more like Shuma to me than it did Gargantos.

It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midI did think the tentacle thing looked more like Shuma than Gargantos (more round), but we'll probably be able to judge better once he trailer is online. Shuma having a fight with Strange in the middle of the street isn't even totally outside of his wheelhouse, as he's often doing a Fighting a Shadow routine.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."
I stand by the theory THE DREAD LORD DORMAMMU will assume Kaecillius's form, and thus be played by Mads Mikkelsen.
