[up] Exactly. Not even Magneto counts, because he is more a case of "he was very far gone and there was a chance to prevent him from stepping over the edge, but he did". If they manage to make Mordo first sympathetic and then show his downfall....I am not sure if my heart will be able to take it, but I so want to see that.

What if Mad's character is a human who turns into an eldritch abomination at the end?

To be honest, I don't want to know, I want it to be a surprise.

There was speculation that he plays doormamu

What is confirmed.

He's human.

He thinks the Ancient One is selfishly protecting her own priorities.

He thinks humanity would be in a better situation if cosmic horrors came to Earth.

Unconfirmed.

Why - villain logic.

Name - I guess Kaluu.

....................................... I"m tell the truth. I don't care for who he may be. I just want to see some tentacle monsters.

We talked about this not long ago in the Order of the Stick thread, but with a Face–Heel Turn in fiction, one of two things are usually true:

  • He wasn't really a Face. He was always a Heel, he was just secretly hiding it and plotting to betray the hero the whole time.
  • He isn't really a Heel. He has a good reason or he's being mind-controlled or it's all a misunderstanding. They'll bury the hatchet and he'll be back on the side of Good before long.

Part of the reason for this, I think, is that it's hard for writers to conceive of a good reason for why someone would become a Heel. As a literary tool, Heels exist to be wrong. Their philosophy is meant to be disproven, their goals are meant to be broken, their dreams are meant to be shattered. Their ultimate purpose is to lose. To that end, a Heel–Face Turn comes pretty easily to villains; all it requires is for the villain to realize he's Wrong and be enlightened by the side of Right.

And, by the same logic, a genuine Face–Heel Turn is hard to pull off because why would someone who is Right suddenly choose to be Wrong?

At its core, it's a conflict that arises from the Black-and-White Morality that many stories are created with. Instead of a protagonist becoming an antagonist, the Face–Heel Turn is approached through the lens of a Hero choosing to become a Villain. It's easy to write a scenario where a person who was previously an ally would, through his personal goals and motives, be suddenly thrust into conflict with the protagonist. But when you accept it as a given that a Hero knows that Evil is always wrong, it's harder to write a scenario where a Hero suddenly decides to devote himself to a life of Evil.

Slightly off topic but the name Doormamu makes me laugh because Mamu is an informal way of addressing your maternal uncle in Hindi. Makes it sound like some guy's talking to his Uncle Door.

I don't know if you're misspelling it on purpose or accidentally, but it's Dormammu. There are no doors, and I'm assuming he's nobody's Mamu. tongue

Kaluu would fit the most character-wise. But since Marvel has a record of crapping on the source material when it comes to villains (Stark-tron, Fakedarin, Ronan the Terrorist, etc.) I think this will be the official Magus of the MCU with Kaluu's motives composited in.

Dormammu replaced Baron Mordo as Doctor Strange's Arch-Enemy to the point that Baron Mordo is barely a blip on the radar in comparison.

This is a being in the comics that took down an entire squad of Sorceror Supremes like nothing, Stalemated the Pheonix force, and in a cosmic alignment that gave him even more power, together with his sister Umar, killed the Multiverse equivalent of Eternity.

Basically, Dormammu was Marvels original answer to Darkseid of DC.

Darkseid with Soul Fire could possibly win. 50/50. Dom is strongest in his own dimension. Within Marvel he is equal to the God heads of Earth's pantheon. Though Ancient One could compete with him during early Dr. Strange. Then there's characters like Chthon who created and protected all dark magic that even Dom calls upon in battle. If someone can stand toe to toe with the Vishanti or any creation of Eternity's creations then you are OP. Dom is the largest extra dimensional eninity, taking up a piece of the Faltine Dimension, which is vaster than where the abstract being called Eternity lives. When he entered the Dark Dimension he had to desize himself because he couldn't fit in the smallest of the Splinter Realms. Then it was expended to nearly Eternity's size. That's how big he is. He takes up so much space the space widens out light years.

Dom in the MCU. Hmm how would it work. Faltlines and their homeland are magical. Unknown mystical energies make up their form. If the energies were ever manfistadtede in Earth reality a city large as New York would be incinerated. Matter is considered a dead form of engery, repugnant by Faltline standards. Ironically Dom and his sister love matter. Much like the MCU's Dark Elves, a normal Faltline would try to destroy univerises infested with matter. So far magic had been established as the act of controlling various energies (whole point of AC season 2). But that was from a scientific perspective not mystical. A sorcerer can tap into something like Zero Matter/Dark Force via free will/energies within the mind. I wondered what the Hand gestures are used for. Meanwhile, mumble jumbo speeches would be true name

I still think Mads is playing Nightmare.

His shifting room looks like something out of a Nightmare Realm, Nightmare is practically Strange's Ur-Example of arch-enemy, and he bears a vague resemblance.

[up][up] THE DREAD DORMMAMU debuted five years before Darkseid

Do you mean the Hall of Fears? It's home to the Deweller in Darkness. It looks like a function hall.

I hope we see the Realm of Madness. It lies beyond the Nightmare Realm/Dream Dimension and sure is freaky in a Squaresoft sense

[up][up] My phrasing was a bit ambiguous, but I was refering to the shapeshifting room Mads Miekkelsen's character is in the trailer. Which really could be the Hall of Fears now that you mention it.

[up] Well are we sure these people are helping him like that? Nightmare has a running tendency of turning people into slaves by influencing their dreams and subsequently feeding on their fear as a powersource. Maybe that's what's going on here. Or maybe Mads is just Nightmare's human vessel.

I think he's working for one of the 7 fear lords instead of being one because Straw Man is the only one who I ever saw who can take on the appearance of human and would have the motivation to stay in that form. Plus I can't warp my head around why would any of them want to open countless dimensions, why the Ancient One would be clueless about one even if it's disguised, and why they would hate it for protecting its own voice of authority.

Do we know what Strange's powers are going to be yet? In the comics, he has control over all of Earth's magic, which makes him a walking Deus ex Machina because he can do whatever he wants. I'm hoping they put some sort of limits on him here.
