The twist for Judgment Day was given away in one of the reviews I read in one of my local evening papers.

To this day I still want the writer's nuts in my trophy cabinet.

I still went to see it in the cinema and I still love the film though.

I did find it interesting how they showed Skynet essentially growing up as they tried to blow it up. That idea is chock full of Fridge Horror. Imagine growing up under the constant threat of death by a relentless enemy that insists you're a monster that needs to be destroyed. No wonder Skynet decided to kill all humans. BTW did anybody else think they were going to do a Mass Effect 3 joke with the holographic child? Because I was making star-brat jokes throughout those scenes.

I'm surprised a lot of people are very critical of the acting in this movie. Sure, Jai Courtney was a bit wooden in most of his scenes (he certainly wasn't the first person I'd cast as Kyle Reese) but I feel some scenes he managed to do really well.

About Arnie being the good guy? I think on the trope page for the franchise, there was mention of the trailers/commercials spoiling that beforehand, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm maybe going to see this even though I think it's going to be a goddamn trainwreck, if only because it doesn't seem boring like Salvation did and because I want to see Schwarzenegger back in action. How do they explain away his age, exactly? I know that he was sent back to the seventies instead of the eighties, but I don't understand how he could have aged so badly in ten or so years, unless Terminator flesh is just prone to aging terribly?

I was thinking of watching this film. Apparently James Cameron said that this film's quite faithful to the original two that he directed. But I've seen a couple of reviews and learned that the film is not doing well at the box office. The reviews I've seen haven't been very kind to the substance, either.

I'm still not quite sure on one thing. Is the future at the beginning of Genisys the outcome of the past films (which may or may not include Terminator Salvation)? Or is it supposed to be the original future, identical to the one in T1, since this was supposed to be a reboot?

All the future scenes take place in the original timeline set up in T1.

I felt the film was fairly faithful to the first two. I don't get the negativity. Sure thus film isn't perfect by any means but it certainly could've been worse. If anything it is a step in the right direction.

I'm not certain that's made entirely clear.

From what I gathered: There's an alternate timeline that remains largely unexplained. We have no idea what event caused the alternate timeline to splinter off - why was there a T-1000 after Young!Sarah, and who sent Pops back to protect her. Pops specifically mentions this, and its a palpable sequel hook.

Just-back-from-seeing-this-at-the-cinema double post.

I enjoyed it. There was quite a lot of humour amid all the violence and chaos, the acting wasn't excellent but it was more than serviceable, with Emilia Clarke making a really good job of being the new Sarah Connor, and Jai Courtney not being too rubbish at being John Connor. In fact, he's probably the best in that role since Edward Furlong in T2. I know, I know, Christian Bale (who was in Salvation) is meant to be a much better actor and all that utter horseshit, but I don't like the guy and he was acted off the screen by the guy who played Marcus. The least said about the poor sap who had the role in Rise of the Machines, the better.

Arnie was excellent throughout, as per usual when he's in the Terminator franchise.

J.K Simmons was really good in his minor(ish) role, and I hope he turns up for the sequel.

Matt Smith, as the embodiment of Skynet, was utterly chilling in his few scenes. He looked and acted the part. I also want to see him again. I also hope we get to see who sent Pops back in time. It sure as sugar wasn't Skynet in any time-line, otherwise he would have done what Kyle expected him to do, which was to kill Sarah Connor.

All in all, I was most impressed by the film. I thought it may have been as dire as its showing in Rotten Tomatoes would tend to indicate, but as usual, the professional critics' opinions don't mesh with mine.

[up] Unless the person/thing that sent Pops back was a version of Skynet that has no beef with humanity. I for one thought it was interesting that when Matt Smith was assimilating John Connor he told him that he "defeated an army of slaves." i.e. the terminators skynet built. The thought that Skynet sees its terminators as slaves was very interesting.

I keep hearing that a lot of people hated the bit where they play the Cops theme. I thought it was funny. Heck, if T2 could have Bad To The Bone, this movie can have Cops.

A sense of humour? In my action movas? NOOO!!!

I liked that bit. As well as all the times that Pops smiled. Or at least tried to.[lol]

My favorite bit was when Pops sized up a naked Kyle. I forget the exact quote apart from the fact that Pops emphasized "little." That had me in stitches.

One thing has occurred to me. Which Skynet is Matt Smith's character supposed to be the embodiment of? He's not the prime!continuity one (that started with the original Terminator film), or from the bastardized one that took root at the end of Rise of the Machines, or indeed the one that spawned Salvation.

He's much smarter than any of them. He won, after all. He killed John Connor. The other Skynets we know about didn't manage to do that, after all. Could he be from a multiverse of other Skynets who've fought and won, or lost, against the humans, and has come to the timeline of this movie to insure a winning pattern across all others? If so, he's really fucking terrifying, not just scary.

Well, we know there is AT LEAST one more 'possible future' we've seen nothing of, because someone has to have sent Pops back to nine year old Sarah. But we don't know who that was. So 'Genisys' could very well have come from yet another future, one (the only one?) where he/Skynet as was actually won the war and is now timestream hopping to alter other timelines too...

Anyone here seen this in 3D or Imax yet? I watched it in 2D the other night there and I was wondering if the extra dimension ruined it or not.

Just watched the movie today, and it...was okay. Not bad though. Although if you're a fucking critic, then you'd said "BURN IT TO THE GROUND".

Also, I wonder why the frick that Paramount Marketing Co. note  decided to spoil You-Know-What. Because of this, they should really skin themselves for being such assholes. Imagine something like The LEGO Movie or Big Hero 6 telling stuff in their ads like "The construction guy meets the Mega Bloks CEO!" or "Hiro's phone battery dies!", that would cause controversy everywhere.

And, yes, even though I'm very impressed with the ending, the mid-Stinger decided to say "Fuck you, villains not dead, we're making fucking sequels, here's the rest of the credits with a One Republic song about falling in FUCKING LOVE!!!". Not. Happy. Jan. (also, note how I reference an Australian quote from an ad that only my parents and other Aussie codgers will get.)

Holy shit I loved this movie. Given what I read about it briefly online, I was expecting a really terrible film, but no, it was awesome. All of the references to the previous films were a nice touch.

The CGI young Ahnold did look a bit... wrong, though.
