This is a thread where I post ideas that I have for Fan Fiction for various works I like.

To start off, I'll describe an idea I have for a Fan Fic set in the universe of the webcomic El Goonish Shive, a comic I've grown rather fascinated with due to its rather consistent approach to Functional Magic.

This fic is intended to be a sort of side-story, as it features fan characters, and, in order to prevent any of them from seeming like a Mary Sue or Marty Stu, they will be completely divorced from the main cast of the comic it is based on.

Alright, without further ado, here's what I've got:

The story starts off following the 12-year-old boy Lawrence Gilder in the small suburb of Carvington, a town somewhere on the East Coast, a good 500-1000 miles from wherever the hell Moperville is supposed to be. He is a student at North Betaville Middle School, and later, a student at Bob Burke High School, both located in the nearby city of Betaville. He is quite a bit of a nerd, and spends much of his time obsessing about various video games and anime. Though he doesn't have very many friends, his best friend, Peter Mason, whom he's known since kindergarten, often hangs out with him, despite being more of an athletic type with little interest in Lawrence's more nerdly activities.

Lawrence's life is ordinary enough, until, one day, he discovers something that changes his life forever. While going downstairs to the kitchen to get a glass of water, he notices a strange glow in the backyard through the kitchen window, and goes outside to investigate.

There, he finds a girl, roughly the same age as he is, and she introduces herself as Luna Brightmoon. Luna, a Cat Girl from another dimension, claims that her parents were killed by an evil wizard named Valus, who, after hearing about a prophecy that he would be killed by a member of the Brightmoon family, proceeded to kill off the entire extended family, one by one.

Luna and her parents were able to evade Valus's grasp through unknown means, but all the other members of her family were exterminated. Remaining in hiding, Luna's parents, Stella Brightmoon and Io Brightmoon, trained their daughter from age six in Supernatural Martial Arts (called "majitsu" in Luna's world) to help fight against him. After six years of hiding, however, Valus found them, and tried to kill them all. Luna's parents were able to save Luna by sending her to another dimension, but ended up getting killed by Valus in the effort.

Lawrence's parents, after the initial shock, decide to adopt Luna and let her live with them. They are soon contacted by a mysterious government agent named Graham, who decides to let Luna stay with Lawrence's family as long as they agree to have her home-schooled to keep up the Masquerade, with Graham regularly visiting to make sure things are okay.

Luna herself is quite shy and prefers to keep to herself, but is at times gets rather lonely, as she is not allowed to leave the house unless given permission my Agent Graham. Because of her shy personality and her time spent in hiding, most of Luna's spells have to do with stealth and remaining hidden.

Lawrence, naturally, is intrigued by Luna's abilities, and Luna agrees to give Lawrence training. Peter Mason, being Lawrence's best friend, is in on the secret, but declines any sort of martial arts training, as he would rather spend his free time playing soccer.

We then Time Skip to four years in the future, when Luna and Lawrence are 16. Lawrence has awakened as a magic user, but, unlike Luna, Lawrence's spells are mostly flashy, one-shot attack spells that are more useful for combat than for stealth. This is partly because Lawrence is less of an introvert than Luna, and partly because he aspires to become a hero like in his favorite anime shows.

The story then ties into the main comic when the Masquerade is broken on live television. This leads to Agent Graham's superiors to deciding to let Luna enroll at Bob Burke High School along with Lawrence and Peter.

Luna, however, has a hard time adjusting to school, as many of the students are afraid of her and shun her for her differences, while others harass her. She does, however, eventually become friends with Jennifer Hazelnut, a Granola Girl who, as it is later revealed, also can use magic. Jennifer's spells are mainly about communicating with animals and controlling plants, but she prefers not to use any of her magic in a violent manner and will never fight unless there is absolutely no other option.

With the four main characters (Lawrence, Luna, Peter, and Jennifer) assembled, things soon start to get weirder, as Valus appears in Carvington, and summons monsters to look for Luna. The monsters wreak havoc, and eventually Lawrence and Jennifer successfully defeat the monsters (though Jennifer at first tries to use her magic to talk to the monsters instead of fighting them, which doesn't work), only to get their asses kicked by Valus himself.

Luna, seeing her friends in danger, decides to give herself up to save her friends, and is seemingly killed by Valus...

...Only for it to later be revealed that Luna used a body double spell to trick Valus into thinking he killed her. Knowing that Valus will soon be back, Luna and Lawrence starts training, harder than ever, to defeat him, and thus ends part one of the story.

So, what do you guys think?
