Motion to pull
The pic is based on the melding in the trope name but doesn't represent the trope at all.
Second
Reading over the page it seems like we'd be able to show at least some of its elements visually, though.
What happened to that old image of Samus edited into Castlevania Aria Of Sorrow?
Thirding, if that's not obvious from the fact that I started the topic :P

Get a slant at this glossary of Pulp Detective terms. It rates. Pipe that? The scary thing about that pic is that her cleavage window kinda looks like it has a face coming out of it.
...Great. Now every time I see that image, I'll see a face coming out of her breasts. Thanks for that.
@nuclearneo: It's here◊. It was removed by tjsomething on 29th Jan '11 3:13:36 PM under the justification "Better picture".
That one's...passable. It at least shows that it's a side-scrolling video game genre. Can we do better?

Get a slant at this glossary of Pulp Detective terms. It rates. Pipe that?Showing the map of Dracula's Castle from any given Castlevania game would work just as well, as they barrowed the idea from Metroid in the first place.
In fact, a side by side pic would be best of Metroid and Dracula's Castle maps.
and
The only problem would be how damn big the maps are. maybe we could use one from a small Metroid Vania.
We could do a collage.
Fight smart, not fair.Nice. Also, why the hell is Map Screen not a trope yet? I'll go YKTTW that now.
Good idea.
I like the map screen idea. Why do you think we need a collage?
First key to interpreting a work: Things mean things.1 vote for just a map screen. The one given works fine.
Bump...I like the map screen pic.
I think it should at least be paired with a gameplay screen.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Maybe gameplay screens showing some of the items you collect, etc.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Maybe a simpler map just showing the locations of items.
I do like that idea of a partial map, though.
Alternatively, we can show a picture of the player-character looking at a powerup he/she can't access yet. With a caption like "You'll need another powerup to get this one."

I think we should do a collage. You know, a couple Metroid and Castlevania games, Cave Story, Mega Man Zero (much more than other Mega Man games), Shantae, etc. I'll find some pictures and see what I can do.
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything. — Talking Heads, 1977But how does a collage communicate the free-roaming explore-whatever nature of the subgenre? A collage of screens from sidescrolling games will have viewers thinking "oh, this is about sidescrollers?". Wrong trope, sorry.

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.
Really, all the image gives us is the title. It doesn't even show that it relates to video games, unless you're already familiar with the two source series and thus able to understand the title anyway.
