I have no idea about music genres, but it reminds me strongly of Eisenfunk.
Ok, this is probably going to sound weird and pretty wrong, but...
I'm looking for music for moments of self-loathing. Not the emo stuff, but more the "OK, my sleep cycle is shot to hell, I haven't eaten anything but pizza and ramen in the last three days, it's 3 AM and I just jacked off to catgirl hentai, what the fuck am I doing with my life" kind of deal.
Preferably something in the singer-songwriter-ish category.
Any suggestions? While the details may vary (I'm not into catgirl hentai, for one) I think most people can relate to the general feeling.
Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...I'm looking for something that sounds similar to Houdini by Foster the People. I already know of Electric Feel, so don't recommend that to me.
I don't know, self loathing is unhealthy. Then again, if you really want something introspective and depressing, then try out Far Away by Jose Gonzalez. You might know it as "the really cool song that played when you finally get into Mexico in Red Dead Redemption".

"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."Usually for "these momentsâ„¢" anything soothing and ambientish does the trick. I would've suggested stuff like Lustmord or Steve Roach, but since you specifically mentioned singing/songwriting I'd say the closest to that for me is Crescent/Movietone...
Especially Crescent's album "By the roads and the fields" springs to mind.
You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here.Anyone know of any bands like Laibach or Rammstein?
I know Rammstein are very heavily influenced by Laibach, I'm just wondering what else is similar.
Keeper of The Celestial FlameI don't think they're that similar myself, but I've heard Eisbrecher compared to Rammstein often.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableHello!
I recently discovered Eric Prydz and think that his music is amazing. Anyone else similar? I've already heard all his aliases, so please don't mention them :)
Thanks!
noisivelet naht nuf erom era srorrim@Midnight Rambler: The Indigo Girls. Their depressing stuff is perfect for that kind of mood. Bear in mind, you'll have to do some digging; their catalog is vast and varied and not all of it will suit that need.

If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~Any songs similar to Fell In Love With A Girl?
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."Besides anything else by The White Stripes, here are some other things:
- Death By Diamonds and Pearls (Band Of Skulls)
- It's Getting Boring By The Sea (Blood Red Shoes)
- 10 AM Automatic (The Black Keys)
- Hands, Store Bought Bones and Steady As She Goes (The Raconteurs, another Jack White band)
There'll probably be something here that's to your liking.

Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveAnything similar to:
- Shadowman (Lee Press-On and the Nails) or The Haunted Phonograph (Thou Shalt Not)
- Senses Capture (Leaves' Eyes)
- Safe in the Dark (Ludo)
- All the Myths are True (Abney Park)
Anything similar to Nightfall in Middle Earth by Blind Guardian? Have tried numerous other power metal albums but there is just something about that one that feels epic and massive, while still retaining a sort of tankard-slamming grit about it.
I'm looking for some music that would serve as a background while reading the manga Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind . Something that would just fit a post-apocalyptic setting with poisonous jungles filled with huge insects, and warring industrial states in conflict. Something lyric-less rather, so that it won't distract from the text too much.
There's pretty much an entire genre similar to Leaves' Eyes. Tried Nightwish yet?

No regret shall pass over the threshold!
Biosphere, "Substrata".
Any metal similair in style to System Of A Down?
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveTry Maximum The Hormone and Stam1na.
No regret shall pass over the threshold!Yes; also Within Temptation, Krypteria, and Edenbridge. :P That particular song is rather... lullaby-like, I guess, and not all symphonic metal is like that.
The Revolution Will Not Be Tropeable@ Johnny: Have you ever tried Alhambra, Angra, or Wuthering Heights?
Only Death Is RealCan someone suggest a composer whose symphony/symphonies are texturally/harmonically rich like the Romantics' style, but have a simple form like the Classicists'?
My crapshoot station on Pandora can go from Disney to death metal in a song. It's awesome!
Anybody have recs for a podcast that plays funny music or geeky music? I tried FuMPcast and Manic Mondays. They both have the same number of tracks per episode, but the latter is 15 minutes and the rest of the time it's funny headlines, so I stuck with it, while the former is 45 minutes and fills it with interviews and FuMP news, which I wasn't interested in, so I dropped it.
I really liked Jonestown Jams, but it died after four episodes. It introduced me to Kirby Krackle though.
Fresh-eyed movie blogThe short version: Looking for mellow but not sleepy instrumental hip-hop and/or anything similar to Lindsey Stirling.
The not-so-short version: I work at a retail place that allows employees to pipe in their ipod/smartphone/etc as music. In theory, the only firm rules are nothing with objectionable language and nothing too high on the Mohs Scale Of Rock And Metal Hardness. In reality, one of the bosses also prefers to have mellow, relaxing background music for the customers, whereas if I don't have something with at least a little rhythm to it, I'll feel like falling asleep on the job. Lindsey Stirling has proved to be a good compromise, as has Ratatat, so I'm looking for something else that could work.
Maybe Odd Nosdam ? http://nosdam.bandcamp.com/album/kenny-dennis-lp-instrumentals
Otherwise if you're looking for quality instrumental hip hop, you can't go wrong with Flying Lotus : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rmFTc51Zk0
Pretty much anything on Ninja Tune should work pretty well too. Try also stuff from Dj Shadow and Dj Spooky.
Edit : also Boards of Canada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUmC0g9jb5M

Someone tell me what genre is this and which artists are similar to this because this is freaking awesome:
