Origin has existed under a couple of other guises for a few years now and has been doing quite well.

^Yeah, because it wasn't given much attention. However, the Crysis 2 debacle drew attention to it.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelAnd now Dragon Age 2 was pulled out* , relating to the Legacy DLC and how it's being handled.
I... just can't weigh in on the matter at this moment, although I don't care so much about that game in particular.
And Valve has still kept mum about the whole thing. What the hell is going on here?

I now go by Graf von Tirol....if this means I'm going to have to buy a second (non-Steam) copy of DA 2 in order to get Legacy, I'm going to break something. Just thought I'd put that out there.
EDIT: Well, that's a relief. Ok, good, no breakage today. Tomorrow, maybe, but not today.

"Those with the Steam version of Dragon Age II can still play the game and purchase the DLC." Sounds like it's an in-game purchase, anyway (which is what probably caused the whole thing).

I'm torn. I was thinking about buying DA 2, but I wanted to buy DA Origins first and see how I liked it before spending more. Now DAO is gonna have to try a lot harder to win me over if it wants me to bother with the sequel, given the highly mixed opinions I've heard about it....
OTOH, I've always been skittish of EA's DRM, and the DA approach to premium content has rather turned me off, so maybe I was just looking for an excuse not to buy it anyway. Even if EA takes its whole catalog elsewhere, it's not like there's a shortage of non-EA Steam games to enjoy.
Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.I really didn't think that the older EA games* would be pulled out at any time. It just happens to be that DA 2 and Crysis 2 would be affected that I know of (I'm told there's a few more but I don't exactly know what).
Although there is a chance Dead Space 2 might be next. Bulletstorm though... not so much.
And at any case, I hope they don't pull out Pop Cap Games from Steam.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.Popcap games have never had DLC purchases at all, much less from within the game.
Jonah FalconOh look, an industry dick measuring contest. EA is feeling inadequate and thinks they need to whip theirs out to try and prove it's bigger. Ugh, I wonder how much money they're going to waste on this stupid shit. As much as I'd like to think it'll die out and they quietly go back to Steam since this appears to be mostly EA just trying to prove their's is bigger it'll likely take a long, long time for them to admit they're better off with Steam's sloppy seconds.
Really, how much more money are they going to make by setting up their own store instead of just letting Valve have their cut from Steam sales?

Yeah, I expect Origin to fall over and die quickly.
Though I really hope my Mass Effect 3 preorder won't be cancelled if it does... EA will remember that it exists, right? Right?
