True. The only reason Piedmon lost is due to getting tired right around the time that reinforcements came.....
and his sword getting trumped.
And trying to serve food when the other person wasn't hungry.
One Strip! One Strip!Well, Mugendramon IS canonically the strongest IIRC, but they had an specific weapon to deal with it.
As well as one for Piemon, but that one weapon also applied to most of the main villians anyway (seriously, dark 'mons seem to be weaker to holy attacks than dragon Pokemon to ice).
Machinedramon is supposed to be the strongest? Where'd that come from?
They were probably still weak from the fight with VenomMyotismon, and being knocked around by the other Dark Masters as soon as they got back to the Digital World.
Then they came knocking on his door, and he still beat the stuffing out of most of them.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI think Puppetmon was probably the weakest myself. Though he did destroy Cherrymon in one hit, so the difference between even a lower-end Mega and an Ultimate must be pretty big.
Well, Puppetmon IS Cherrymon's primary evolution. It is made out of Cherrymon wood for pete's sake.
Machinedramon was stated as the strongest Digimon in the flavor text at the time of its introduction, and the Dark Masters were introduced at roughly the same time.
Machinedramon was introduced before the Mega Level existed, ergo it was the strongest monster in Digimon World, being an almagam of Ultimate parts. Also, in Digimon Pendulum 5 Metal Empire WarGreyman and MetalGarurumon were weaklings of megas weaker than ultimates whose only purpose was to Jogress into Omnimon, who didn't even exist yet, making Machinedramon the strongest thing available to players by default. It wasn't actually head and shoulders above all other megas.
When WarGreyman and MetalGarurumon were reinterpreted as not being worthless on their own, better than MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon whom they evolved from. When Omnimon was reinterpreted from "really good mega" to Physical God, "Machinedramon is the strongest" no longer applied in any context, and it just became another run of the mill mega, hence Chaos Lord, Chaosdramon and all the other "upgraded" Machinedramons, as well as Adventure Machinedramon being done in by a single blow once it finally fought something of it's level (as well as WarGreymon drilling straight through MetalSeadramon's river of power and MetalGarurumon no selling Puppetmon's strings. Their original V-pet versions never would have pulled off feats like that.)
To be fair, the strain of defeating Machinedramon was so much that it knocked WarGreymon all the way back to In-Training even with the Super Effective weapons, so it wasn't as one-sided as it seemed.
Digimon World came out after the first version of the Pendulum, so, nope?
Also, going by the descriptions of the actual mons, not gameplay performance. Mugendramon's official profile at the time of its debut puts it as the strongest Digimon, and that includes the rest of the Dark Masters.
War Greymon had the Dramon Killers as part of its profile as well, so I guess those thump V-Pet performance.
It also ends up being foreshadowing for Milleniumon....
Watch SymphogearWhen Piemon curbstomps War Greymon and Metal Garurumon the first time, he mentions how they've only recently reached Ultimate level compared to him.
By the time they've fought their way up Spiral Mountain, they do noticeably better against Piemon. They still lose, but they definitely put up a better fight and from what I can remember were pressuring him as a team until the Clown Trick which is just a straight up BS move.
You're right, the first Pendulum beat World, coming out in October 1998 but it takes a little less time to make an 8 bit portable that runs a single program with 30 sprites, many of which are recycled, than a 64 bit game featuring the large majority of then extant Digimon that need new models. Especially in the 90s. Digimon World Was Released in January 1999, Pendulum 5 Metal Empire was released in September.
Machinedramon was originally an Ultimate before mega level existed. I guess I shouldn't have said that in the literal sense, but in the practical sense it was intended to be. There are no megas in world.
This is true, though don't forget, Garurumon pulled his own BS move with randomly heal Wargreymon of all his injuries out of nowhere at the end of the previous episode. They needed it, because only together did they stand a chance, but it was still bull.
But yeah, they did a lot better the next time they took him on. Hell, even Wargreymon on his own did better, despite being stomped into mud. This time it took longer.
One Strip! One Strip!According to the fan-fic "Piedmon's Diary," you're right; they don't.
Dear Diary,
Complain, complain, complain. That’s all I hear anymore. “The water’s too salty” MetalSeadramon says. “I’ve got mistletoe in places I can’t reach” Puppetmon whines. “I need an oil check. I’ve walked around for more than 3,000 miles” Machinedramon complains. And they expect me to fix it? I swear, I’m at the breaking point. I’ve had nice visions of punching that guppy’s lights out, or torching Woodie. Ah, and it’d be fun to cut robo-bozo into scrap metal! But then again, I do need them around. If I didn’t have them, I might actually have to do some work around here. Oooh, I shudder at that thought.
"according to the fan fic"
The sad, REAL American dichotomyIt's a funny fan-fic.
I like to keep my audience riveted....The only issue is that all of them have Minions they interact with and could help... except Piedmon because he doesn't do anything with his minions. I wonder if the various Mangas are different about that.
But seriously, that's hilarious.
Character page seems to sum it up well.

I wouldn't underestimate Machinedramon's strength. He was able to completely shrug off attacks which would have at the very least hurt the other Dark Masters. In terms of raw brute strength he could very well be the strongest of them, he's just not terribly versatile with what he can do with it.
Odd thought, but I like the D in Piedmon.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyA d that was added to avoid making the name reference a certain kind of food, and ends up making it meaningless, while the original can be easily traced to originating from the pierrot.
Oh well, still, a detail, and meaningless compared to headbanging stuff like Slush Angemon.
I thought it was supposed to be a reference to the Pied Piper.
And the name makes more sense now, but, still, searching for Pierrot in google images will bring up quite a few images of neck frills and black and white facepaint.
Piedmon did seem far above the other three. WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon did better against them than they did against VenomMyotismon, but Piedmon smacked them around but good.
