I do question why a woman that old is still doing the voice of an adult male.

So was I the only one who noticed Mirei in that trailer? Does this game take place in the same world as Redigitize?

The game looks interesting. But I'd still like to play redigitze in english as well.

Count me in as a Dub over Sub guy regarding Digimon, which is usually something I award only to Funimation dubs.

Adventure I'd say is half/half with a slight favoring of the sub, given that Saban seemed all over the place with corny dialogue and music which occasionally meant Lull Destruction. However sans Apocalymon and Machinedramon, pretty all the villains were more entertaining and a few of the cuts and changes were quite welcome (such as the stranger willing to take Matt or Ete!Butt :p)

Adventure02 was so badly disorganized and the main characters so flat that corny dialogue is actually an improvement, and they did a better job with the music. And once in a while even at serious parts the dub was better

Tamers was pretty much completely better, the team was clearly asleep at the wheel so most everything was retained, and once again better voices (especially concerning Guilmon). Especially at the episode, at the moment. Where it counted most, the sub had silence as an asset, but it was little match for the deliberate swell, and the far more applicable dialogue, which ultimately made it seem more tragic and helpless....FATE MY A##

Almost tied on Frontier, but the hilarious Southern Belle accent given to Ranamon, the thespian shtick given to Mercurimon, and the C Hristopher Walken inspired Ice Devimon sway me to the dub.

The original Savers has too many This Is Unforgivable! instances for my liking, and sans "Believer" I'm having a hard time remembering any of the themes for it and as for voices, only Masaru and Kurata stand out. Whereas the dub has an exaggeratedly low voice for Thomas, Kristy sounds like Rika, and the boredly amused voice given to Kurata is for once a credit. The music is quite good (even if the Opener is kinda generic rock) too. But the real gem of the dub is who did Spencer Damon.

Literally everybody who didn't hear the american dub first thinks that isn't good. The actual best dub is probably the german one, and that one gave renamon a male voice. Best american english dub (since there's also the filipino one) is Data Squad, since it's the only one that actually got the script right.

This post on artstyle changes seems interesting though.

[up] Disagreed, Data Squad missed the mark concerning a few of the voices.

And really the death of Leomon in Tamers was vastly improved by deviating from the script, hell even this part was more effective just because of the change from fate the whole way to starting with how "the spirit will always be with us"...that change actually made the Mind Rape somehow even more unsettling and creepy.

...On an easier note and a curious tie-in to ATLA....The Dark Masters surprisingly fit the ATLA bending temperaments decently.

Metal Seadramon despite being sea bound seems to fit Earth, Puppetmon has the flightiness of Air, Machinedramon has the cold, ruthless passion of Fire, and Piedmon has the flexibility and inconsistency of Water.

No. It most absolutely wasn't, it was the difference between something generic and something that is actually part of the characterisation. That part doesn't make it creepier either because it goes against the reason why jeri rejects her stepmother and consequently sees herself as bad person.

To be fair to the Tamers dub, they mostly tried to guess what the script meant and made it more explicit, which would have worked great in the prior seasons, but the problem is that Tamers was far to nuanced to accept small deviations. Like changing what jeri says when she chases around leomon; harmless right? Too bad it actually went against the really important fact that jeri doesn't associate fate or destiny with anything good.

And if you want to use the bending elements of ATLA, try the four holy beasts.

Especially because the element breakdown you gave isn't exactly accurate.

Puppetmon is actually possible to be Earth or Air. Namely because he's a Wind Guardian and is able to go into the Ancient Spirit of Wood, AncientTroiamon. However, he also controls the Forest. Earth seems most appropriate for the actual setting. I wouldn't even go with the basic four elements either since it doesn't fit all the settings right. Fire is not exactly noted as one for anybody. Piedmon is better associated with Darkness, Machinedramon with Steel, and MetalSeadramon directly with Water. He does have a Fire attack, and clearly Energy.

If I had to choose, I do think I'd go with Puppetmon being Earth, MetalSeadramon being Water, Machinedramon being Fire(only because he has immense firepower by design, and he's the only one to control an immense army, which, you know, "and then the Fire Nation attacked"), and finally, Piedmon with Air. A good amount of Piedmon's domain has tons of cliff and areas you could fall from. I really don't think they intended to make them based upon those particular four elements. At least outside of MetalSeadramon and Puppetmon, maybe. Of course, personality-wise, Puppetmon is the hardest to come up with. Machine and Metal seem to work fine for this particular paragraph. Puppetmon could take Air instead, since his personality is everchanging, and Piedmon Earth since he lives in the Mountains and adapted to his surroundings. You could also reverse it due to the constant changing of Puppetmon's surroundings as part of how he fights the Digidestined(although it's not severely constant), and for what I noted earlier about Piedmon's area.

I would not mind if they noted what the ideal settings were meant to be like. It's also possible they were going for a different elemental spread. Which I can't find all the various "settings" on this wiki alone. I thought we had a list before, but eh. I remember one having Metal and Wood on it separately, which seems highly appropriate for this particular list. Now, the Sovereigns are a bit more based upon the four Elements of Earth, Fire, Water, Air instead. It's even mentioned during Season 2 what they represent. Ironically they only directly all show up in Season 3, when that's less relevant(until some show off their powers, anyway).

I'm seeing news saying that in addition to Zero Two being canon that they aren't retconning the epilogue. I personally don't have an issue with that but I'd figured I'd let you guys know incase that influences your view of the upcoming season.

I'm seeing summaries and trnaslations that mention that Tri plans on foreshadowing the epilogue from 02 and that the plot also involves dealing with "problems between humans and Digimon when they are quickly becoming closer" so maybe?

[up]

Also heard about this and I greatly approve of this initiative. My greatest issue with the epilogue is not the official pairings, but how it just skips to a distant time and just say how the world is more or less in peace with the newly discovered world and how everyone has Digimon partners now, but don't bother to explain how sociaty has achieved this result even though it raises a lot of questions. It just happens offscreen and you have to accept this because... well, this is the finalle and the author says so.

The reason why it bothers me so much is because we are talking about creatures with powers so strong you are basically giving everyone its own personal nuke. Also, not all of mankind is made of good people and the Digimon are not exactly mere pets, they are intelligent creatures that can think by themselves, and some of them can be quite evil too. To make things even more complicated they are easily influenced by human emotions and easily go berserk and cause havok even if that's not the intention. Logic says giving every person in the world a Digimon is a disaster waiting to happen and I can easily see why most people would not be ok with such a change in the world.

So, since this is by all means an interquel between the final battle of 02 and its Distant Epilogue there is really one obvious plot point to be elaborated upon and will be central theme of this season. The world having to deal with the Digimon being a part of their lives and learning to accept each other with the aid of Taichi and his fellow Digidestined. If this is a season to tie in with the Distant Epilogue, we may be looking at the story that will finally explain how he becomes the ambassador of the whole Digital World.

[up]That would be awesome!

If this series ends up like that, we may have a season to that could compete with Adventure 01 and Tamers.

Except I have a bad feeling that's not how the show's going to go.

Digimon Adventure Tri: The Story of How Your Ships Didn't Happen.

But for serious, I hope we get some of the actual repercussions too.

That would be cool.

That being said, and I've mentioned this before....

It's been more than ten years since we've seen Angewomon and Ladydevimon slapping each other silly.

Just give me my fix writers. I know you'll do it this time, because this is Adventure. Don't let me down.

It takes place three years after most of 02 and part of the focus is on what things are like now that everyone has a Digimon partner now while foreshadowing the infamous epilogue.

We really may see Evil Chosen now.

Or at least evil humans partnered with Evil Digimon (with no one controlling the other. That would be awesome).

I'd like to see some more good members of stereotypically "evil" species. The friendly Myotismon in the first Digimon World, for instance.
