Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The state where you are more likely to go to prison for being the governor then you are for committing murder.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I would protest that, but statistically, it's true. We have a higher percentage of former governors in jail than murderers.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI never got a clear answer about Qatar and the World Cup. Bribery for what?
Securing the votes needed to host the event.

Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleWhy FIFA corruption is America's business. It's nice to be able to feel good about something my country is doing. No doubt it will soon turn out that someone else did the heavy lifting,World War 2/The American Revolution, that it was a cynical grab for power The Marshal Plan,or just the wrong thing. Still it feels nice, for now.

Goody, that's only about 20 years overdue...
Well Putin has his own theories:

The artist formally known as Deviant BraeburnOf course, Putin's theories also blatantly contradict reality, as he claimed that no US citizens are involved, (tell that to Chuck Blazer, the guy who turned in FIFA officials to mitigate his own sentences of bribery and corruption) that the crimes have nothing to do with the US or its territories, when much of the money laundering was being done through US banks.
So, nothing new with regard to Putin's relationship to reality, there, I guess.

The artist formally known as Deviant Braeburn...I'm sorry my snark just critfailed. I am without words.
"You can reply to this Message!"You know the Opinion peace I linked talks about exactly why Putin is wrong right?
I'll give Paul credit, his ad is um unique. At least it's not a black screen with a black and white photo of the opponent looking ashamed, with ether a male or female voiceover recounting that opponents misdeeds, and then of course their is the colored photo of the candidate the add supports looking happy and inspired. I swear it seems like they hire the same company to make half the attack ads in this country.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. For those of us who can't view video, can someone give us a synopsis?
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswThat ad looks like it's trying to play off the "WTF Internet Randumb Humor" crowd without understanding how that works.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Imagine if Stephen Colbert made a pro Rand Ad. But played serious instead of parody.
"You can reply to this Message!"Rand Paul vs Obama and his so called conservative allies, Lindsey Gram and Ted Cruz"the capitulating Canadian", all done in the style of a wrestling match promo, it is as hilarious as it sounds. Also whatever you call Cruz the man doesn't seem to be the "capitulating type." If anything his problem is refusing to "capitulate."
Edit: Oh and their are fire breathing Eagles, and a phoshoped shirtless Rand sporting a carpet of virility.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Oh my god, I'm dying of laughter right now.
Well, I'll give him points for trying, at least.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonWell, you can't spell Randumb without Rand.
We sure this ain't a trailer for a kickstarter movie? Coz this makes Kung Fury seems like a sober documentary in comparison.
Well now I feel silly. I was really replying to your commentary, not the article itself.
