[up] Democracy does seem like the fairest method of doing this.

[up][up][up] One's a nature-loving Ent (I am probably wrong on this), one's a hyper-vigilant law enforcer, and one's a hyper-abrasive career criminal.

BUT FATE DREW THEM TOGETHER, WHEN THEY FOUND AN EGG ON THEIR DOORSTEP.

"Hm?"

"WHAT?"

"Bloody hell..."

From the makers of HORSIN' AROUND and PEANUTBUTTER AND JELLY comes the newest sitcom on the block;

POKEDADS

Aye, it occurs to me that in-universe, Wasp has become a nervous wreck since she doesn't have any action happening-simply put, she's so used to ATLAS being after her that being able to sit back and relax is stressful in of itself. I thought that she might fare better as a Merc with you guys, since action is her forte.

Anything you all want to know before I start posting?

A character sheet (in this layout) is required, since WAOAA has stricter rules in terms of what is allowed for a character and what is not.

They're working undercover (sorta) for the moment, so if Wasp causes too much attention, it's gonna make things harder for them.

That's about it, I think?

Oh, yeah, [up] is a pretty good idea too.

It pains me to ask this but

I'm having trouble with R Ping lately, seems like I'm screwing up recently and it's made me self loathing, not being good with words lately, and the confidence to take some risks.

Are you asking for criticism?

That's worded really weirdly, sorry.

If you wants advice, Kirb, you're gonna have to phrase it as such, cause so far you've just written some of your personal feelings into the thread like a blog post.

I meant to say, I want criticism, much as it sounds painful for me. ._.

Well, I'll try and compile a list for character-specifics:

  • I think the characters need to visibly change from their experiences. I think part of the issue is that the characters remain rather static?
  • Some subtlety, I think, would also be good. Rather than outright stating a character aspect, I think it'd be beneficial to try and underplay certain parts.
  • Infodump when relevant or necessary. Don't do it on a whim.
  • Try not to force a character into a "role", whether it be father figure, commander figure, or the like and look for what naturally seems to fit them as they interact.
  • Roll with a mistake instead of feeling guilty over it or trying to retcon it. It just creates more awkwardness on everyone's sides.

EDIT: Added last one.

I'll merely build my own commentary/opinions to Etheru's advice for now, since he's made more concise sentences here.

  • There is a phrase called "Show, Don't Tell". "Show" is when a change to the character is written in a way that the reader can figure it out without having the text literally spell it out for them. "Tell" is when rather than having the change be exemplified through a character's actions and general demeanor so the reader understands it intuitively, the knowledge of that is given to the reader in a direct, blunt, and sometimes unnecessary explanation whether by the author or a character. Yes, even when the change is outright stated by the character themselves. That's part of what Etheru means by the "subtlety" and the "infodump" and the "change" things. If you have to make that sort of information relevant through such an overtly expository way, then you're not doing it well. Exposition works for when it's otherwise impossible for the reader to understand what's going on through lack of context, hence why such a massive amount of information is shoved down their throats all at once rather than just sprinkled throughout. Not for when it's two guys just having a lunch meet. "Show, Don't Tell" is a hard skill to learn and takes a shitton of writing/reading to get the hang of it, but it's doable.
  • You can't force an idea or role for a character that nobody else buys into. As Etheru said, you can't make a character into a father figure just because it's on your character sheet, or claim someone's a badass super strategist when they couldn't lead their way out of the restrooms. A reputation/role has to be earned by the other players' acknowledgement, not written down and expected to be followed. Eve did not get her reputation for being a badass leader by sitting back in a Laz-E-boy and taking credit for everything people did. Nor did someone like Megatron earn the right to be leader of the Decepticons by just whining and flailing his arms around and throwing a tantrum until someone said he could be. So yeah. If you want a character to be respected/liked, they have to actually act respectable and likable for the other players to acknowledge it. It's surprisingly not hard to do if they actually prove themselves to be useful and not annoying.
  • Know when to roll with your mistakes, but also know when to just cut your losses and move on. Sometimes we mess up on an idea or just have plain bad ideas, so knowing not to cry over either when it comes up is important. It's a game, and a work of fiction. You have plenty of time to try out ideas to see what works or doesn't.

One last thing I'd add for now is

  • Don't go letting things get too personal with this game. If you're finding yourself breaking down into tears over something or punching the wall in rage, just pull away from the computer and have a nap or play some video games or something else. Sooner you learn to regulate yourself like that, the better, since you can use it in other areas of your life too.

  • Name: Savri/ "Wasp", when in-op or undercover

  • Appearance: 6ish foot (haven't ever really decided on her exact height. May be more or less with the boots she wears), slim, athletic build, asymetrical hair cut, dyed hair (color varies due to multiple dyes as time progresses),

  • Age: 20

  • Race: Cybernetically-enhanced human

  • Gear: cybernetic prosthetic arm to replace lost one, lockpick (electronic and physical), tactical harness (for ammo, gadgets and gizmos, said lockpick, radio, etc. Optional backpack attachment [ultilitarianism yes!]),

  • Powers: N/A- "Knowing is half the battle!..the other half being having the biggest f*cking gun" -Me

  • Skills: Informant- Wasp was the one to dig up info, schematics, plans, and the like for her team. Shes a skilled communicator and has plenty of ways to get the dirt on people. who was where, what was said, she has ways to get it all.

  • Physical Abilities: Savri has some fighting experience, but is not particualarly skilled aside from being tough as nails due to fighting armoured foes consistantly.

  • Quick Traits: (not exactly sure what you're asking for here)

I think that's about it. Sorry for the delay but life, you know? Any issues?

[up] There is a very glaring issue; your formatting.

  • Use asterisks (*) to make list items.
  • This'll make your charsheet a lot more readable.

I see little wrong though.

EDIT: Christ, you ninja'd me before I even posted. What kind of machine are you?
