Well, considering that there were three separate kilothreads over the Other M brouhaha, I'm not entirety sure that this thread will stay civil for long.
At any rate, I'll just say that Metroid Primes 1 & 3are my two favorite Metroid titles, and I still play them to this very day.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.I've played Prime 1 about 7 times, 2 about 8 times, and 3 about 6 times.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!A great object lesson in how
1) A game can imply a detailed (yet mysterious and never entirely explained) story with an absolute minimum of text or dialog
2) A game can shove cut scenes down your throat left and right, yet never manage to raise the slightest interest in the plot or involve the player at all
Seriously, even without getting into issues of Samus's personality or sexism, I could rant for novels about what Other M did wrong from a story and presentation standpoint.
BUT THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT FOR RIGHT NOW LOL
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEStrike that, increase each of my counts above by one.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I missed the Other M shitstorm when it happened. I feel kinda ripped off actually. That's a heated debate flame war i'd have loved to toss myself into.
Anyways, i still haven't played 3 because my Wii has been collecting dust for a long time. Shame the Prime trilogy pack is so expensive. Why do first party nintendo titles NEVER go down in price?
I've never had that dedication to a single series. I salute you, sir.

Because no one sells their old first-party Nintendo games.
Here's a question: how many years will it be before a new console Metroid title will be announced?
I don't remember how many times I played through Super Metroid, though it's probably about 6 or so. I played Other M twice.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Nintendo celebrates the 25th anniversary of Metroid with $20 copies of Other M. What a gift to the fans!
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEFive flame wars in total, if I'm not mistaken:
The first was before the game came out, the second was the 1000-post thread that got archived, the third got the Other M Headscratchers page locked, the fourth was the infamous "direction of the series" thread, and the fifth was on the old JBM sub-forum.
Did I miss anything?
No, that's all of 'em.
I remember when I intentionally derailed the 1000-post thread with a discussion about how the Emperor from Final Fantasy II looked like David Bowie. Good times.
ANYWAY, Prime 2 is easily my favorite of the series, though Zero Mission comes pretty close.
I love Super Metroid and the first Metroid Prime. I haven't played Other M, but I'm going to pick it up sometime and see what it's like.
I had a copy of the Metroid Prime Trilogy, but it was kidnapped by ninjas and now I seek another copy.
Just playing metroid 2 for the first time. It truly is an underrated game. I'm so far loving the isolation.
But GODDAMIT are those zeta metroids hard as balls.
Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal. Are those the ones that look like they've gone super saiyan? (the ones with the animated tails)?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.^^ I tried to love Metroid 2. I really did.
But the copy/paste environments + the lack of a map just killed it for me. :(
I wish I could find my Fusion cart. It's missing.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I never really did see Metroid II use Copy-and-Paste Environments as much as Metroid NES did.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.It didn't, but it was still definitely there. Being monochrome didn't help, either. Metroid II desperately needs a remake. Or, at least, a rerelease with a fucking map.
Agreed.
Also, Metroid II had the hottest good ending Samus.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.She looks like she's on her way to a wet t-shirt contest. So: agreed, I guess.
Also, Metroid II already has a map. IN MY HEAD.
Best Metroid game, seriously.
Also,

ALL OF MY REAG, NINTENDO. ALL OF IT.
MIDDLE FINGERRRRRRRRRRRR! GO!! GO!! GO!!
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.The bore is bored. How predictable.

Metroid has been a personal favorite series of mine since I played Metroid Prime as a kid, up there with Zelda, Mario and Sonic. My favorite games in the series would have to be Super Metroid and the original Metroid Prime. And Other M was a great game you unpleasable- -shot-
Anyway, discuss the series here. And please, try not to get into heated debates about Samus' characterization in Metroid: Other M - or anything about that game. We all have different thoughts on the game. Feel free express your opinion and, if asked, you should explain your opinion, but let's keep things civil, k?
