I wanna write an unrequited love pseudo-ship fic with just a whole circle of this pony special-likes this pony.

I wanna hear suggestions for this circle.

@God of Awesome: since every background pony is just a fancy O.C. Stand-in, does it really matter which ones you pick?

I've seen worse Overly Prepared Gags. I've also seen more excessive clop.

umm, speaking of clop... has anyone else been getting ads for Bad Dragon on fimfiction, or is it just me?

I have little idea what the last half dozen or so posts are talking about.

It's not just you. At least these are better than the last batch that thought that being unobtrusive was placing themselves right in the center of my screen.

What ad are you talking about? I'm not seeing anything even with Ad Block disabled.

@Blissey: I get those too, know nothing else about it, and want to know nothing else about it.

At least there's a bit of good news for fan works on my radar.

There's no reason that anyone shouldn't use adblock anymore—its available as a Firefox extension and a Chrome plugin. No one should be using Internet Explorer, and I don't think I've met anyone who uses Opera.

Also, if I recall correctly, one reason that NSFW blogs were disallowed was that it confused the ad engine. Maybe the mature filter affects ads too? It certainly should.

I have to do my classes in Internet Explorer.

Also, I still get some adds despite adblock. They're typically the more annoying ones too.

I have AdBlock+, but apparently I take those "please disable blocking b/c that's how we survive" messages more seriously than you do. At least for the few sites I actually use regularly (Fimfic, EQD, TGWTG).

I use No Script, myself, which generally lets the simpler image ads through (which I'm completely okay letting sit around). I also usually white list sites that have gained my favour (generally pretty rare these days, though). However a sure way to stay on my black list is if the site has one of two things:

• Those completely unoptimized, resource-hogging, obnoxious script ads that cause Flash to implode upon itself, either taking everything with it or grinding the browser to a halt.
• Those ads with "X is out of date, please click this pop-up to install my keylogger/virus!" hidden in them (and I've seen this on a disturbing number of popular sites...).

Do either of those to me and you permanently lose your white list privileges, end of story.

I don't mind leaving unobtrusive ads up, but on a site devoted to a visual medium like reading ads are a severe mood killer.

@Sereg: that's usually a sign that your school can't afford better IT professionals or the licensing fees for premade online class software

Actually, google adsense is infamous for its dodgy payment schedules and practices. Many of its ads don't pay out on view, only click/subscription. I'm significantly less wary of ads run by Project Wonderful.

By that logic, I'm entitled to block ads on FIMfic since I provide them with free content that they then monetize.

Yeah I use no script, but let sites I know/like through for adds if I can.
