Differentiating Obi Wan Moment and: Face Death With Dignity

My first priority here is the laconic, which, as written, makes this trope scarcely, if not absolutely, no different from Obi-Wan Moment.

I'd like some thoughts on whether the two, as written, are sufficiently differentiated in description in general.

Reading Face Death with Dignity, it seems to be about actively choosing to turn yourself over to an execution/villain who is sure to kill you/etc. or deliberately choosing not to flee to avoid such a fate. Obi-Wan Moment seems to be about being very calm in the final seconds, with no focus on how you came to the fate. I think the link to Face Death with Dignity in the Obi-Wan Moment description is misleading.

The examples though, seem to have a lot of confusion. I would favor renaming Face Death with Dignity (and maybe even broaden to include non-lethal situations, like Will refusing to flee even though he knows he will be imprisioned, beaten, and publicly humiliated if he doesn't in A Knights Tale). Then maybe Face Death With Dignity can be made a redirect for Obi-Wan Moment.

Oh, I always thought an Obi-Wan Moment was a sort of passing the torch death, very calm and dignified, but passing on the torch to the survivors. Drat, I've been getting that one wrong.

Bumping for resolution. How can we rewrite that laconic to make the tropes different? Or how are they truly different?

Starry Eyed,

Reading Face Death with Dignity, it seems to be about actively choosing to turn yourself over to an execution/villain who is sure to kill you/etc. or deliberately choosing not to flee to avoid such a fate. Obi-Wan Moment seems to be about being very calm in the final seconds, with no focus on how you came to the fate. I think the link to Face Death with Dignity in the Obi-Wan Moment description is misleading.
I agree with your interpretation of the distinction between those two tropes.

I also feel like the "they take their last few seconds and use them to reassure the people they're leaving behind" portion of the description is an optional part of Obi-Wan Moment since it is joined with the other option of "find[ing] one last moment of peace before they Go into the Light." As a result, I do not think that Cryptic Mirror's use of Obi-Wan Moment seems to be incorrect. I guess for me the calm part of Obi-Wan Moment is the most important part.

I would be open to a rename of Face Death with Dignity though considering how the current name says pretty much nothing about turning yourself in.

Bumping in an effort to clear up old threads.

I agree that the problem seems to be that Facing Death With Dignity is too broad for the rather specific trope it's attached to. Does anyone want to disagree?

It seems to me that the difference between the two is that Face Death with Dignity is where one chooses to die, knowing there are alternatives and rejecting them, while Obi-Wan Moment is about staying calm when it becomes apparent that, despite your best efforts, death is imminent.

Neither of these are very good names.

Bumping. Anything to do here?

Is there any actual misuse of the two tropes around the wiki, or was it just one person being confused?
