Apparently, Germany is still as big on censorship as back in the day, it seems.

Running GPL software on hardware you legally bought is not a crime and allowing people to do so shouldn't be as well.

This guy is clearly deluded. If he's willing to keep breaking laws for no reason even as it bankrupts him, so be it.

Except he isn't breaking laws: He's allowing people to put legal software on legal hardware.

If you consider this a crime because it also allows piracy, then why don't you have arms manufacturers (and while we're talking of pirates, boat manufacturers) arrested?

A problem with Sony this is : Sony doesn't know that the very ability for a console to interface with internet is like a double-edged sword. A door that swings both ways. You get rid of the door, and all you get is just a wall. No one can get in, but then no one will talk to you

I wonder if people realize there's a difference between the PSN hack and the hack of the PS 3.

I think the PS 3 hack might have broke the Terms of Service, but he didn't actually do anything illegal with it. Did it enable illegal piracy? Yes. It could be argued that that's Sony's fault since they used the same password for everything, but it could also be argued that he shouldn't have released it once he found that out. I'm not going into that argument.

The real thing is, yes, this would allow piracy. It's more than likely. However, unless they personally pirated games... what have they done that is actually illegal?

I will agree this seems like stupid German law screwing the guy over more than Sony (Innocent until Proven Guilty Or Bankrupt, what a system), though.

Hey, if you like PS 3 games that's fine. I don't see a problem with owning a PS 3 these days, heck if I actually owned a console I'd probably get a PS 3 because it's got exclusives I'd like to play. I just don't like Sony itself, and a lot of people don't like the idea of giving them money after this, especially considering that (as the article mentions) both Microsoft and Nintendo both had similar hacks made for their system and they didn't go KILL KILL KILL mode.

Also why is there a constant call of "BIAS" on that article? Maybe slightly biased but it's not like there's a line about "SONY IS THE DEVIL" in there.

If it helps I hate all of the big 3 after this E3 we had. I dont like what sony is doing either but it feels like you either have to hate sony or be some blind loyal fanboy slave.

I just want Sony to make and distribute good games again, and stop all this bad security and stupid litigation crap.

As for bias... it's a news article. They're biased as a rule. Get over it.

I think it's just because the "SONY IS THE DEVIL" crowd and the "SONY COULD SHOVE A SPIKED POLE UP MY ASS AND IT'D BE LEGAL" crowd are a pair of Vocal Minorities, and this is the internet.

Pretty much. I've seen and heard some awesome stuff about PS 3 games, and the PS Vita looks interesting.

The article starts out with picture of Braveheart, and is going on about how Sony oppressing this one guy. I think the statement that "Sony is the Devil" is pretty obvious.

Yeah, I'm definitely in agreement that everyone involved in this is an asshole. The hacker is probably the involved party who's done the least wrong, though.
