Just a quick question about the Inbound Watch.

If I put my name down for one slot in the Watch, Am I locked in to that spot? Or can I Opt out at any time?

Opt out any time.

Could we put down that we can do it for a short period of time, like only one shift?

Oh, Inbound Watch.

Basically your babysitting the current set of most widely visited pages and cleaning them as best you can.

Was that implemented before we required accounts to edit?

This can probably replace it.

Actually yes. It serves a specific purpose to police and clean up currently actively linked articles and pages not new edits.

namely Items from the Inbound Links Page

You would volunteer for a bit to check the Inbound Links Page pick like the top ten or so and go through them and remove glaring errors, formatting mistakes, etc. Basically cleaning up the pages the public is currently linking, and in theory viewing currently, the most

Yep. I think Eddie and I are the only ones signed up, but I know there are others doing it informally.

I'll just do it informally then, checking in when I want to.

Can I still receive bragging rights?

Adding a symbol or number next to your name might work. e.g. My Handle 1. Where MyHandle was your Handle, and 1 was the number of times you can do the Shift.

Would that work, or not?

I really can't stand it when forums do stuff like that to "rate" members. Always, whether intentionally or not, feels like a mandatory pissing contest.

[up] It wasn't supposed to rate you, it's pretty much saying how many times you will do this. Not how many times you Have.

I always thought the inbound watch was supposed to take some of the load off the Mods.

Oh, you mean just on the Inbound Watch page to indicate how long you can take that timeslot for? I thought you meant something on your forum posts or something.

That being the case, your idea's good.

Thanks.

So.... Do we just put a notice on the Page. Or do we have to pass this through the Mods first.

Just edit the Inbound Watch page to add yourself. Use the preview to make sure you've put your name where your want it. The tables markup can be confusing.

And the big reason it was instituted was as a Natter-reduction effort; the reasoning was that Natter tends to beget Natter, so if we could catch it on the busiest pages as soon as it was added and get rid of it, we'd start moving away from "it all over, it must be ok" and "There's just too much to clear" mindsets.

I know, I was talking about Putting a notice up on the inbound watch page. I was thinking Something along the lines of This:

If you want to take part. Please edit in your name, and the number of times you will do that shift.

Maybe subdividing the shifts to be shorter might work too. 6 hours seems like a long time.

I'm hoping that some of this might encourage more people to sign up for the Inbound watch.

Yeah, sub-divide. There's no way I can be on for six hours straight.

Ok, So here's my proposal. We subdivide the shifts in the inbound watch. For every Six-hour shift, there will then be two Three hour ones.

I would love to volunteer for this, but Six hours straight is ridiculous. Hopefully with shorter three hour shifts, other Tropers will Sign up too.

Any votes?

I'm good with the idea of shorter shifts.
