So maybe there are powers all witches and other creatures share?

Also maybe magical people could be reffered to by terms denoting mixed blood rather than witch. Any suggestions?

Hybrids?

Unfortunately, most of the words that spring to mind are either (a) racist, (b) denote specific IRL ethnicities or (c) refer specifically to animals or plants.

How about changelings, mixed, touched, blends and such.

"Touched" by Vorlons? tongue

"Mixed" has dodgy race connotations which you should probably at least be aware of if you go with that one.

"Changeling" could work. Nothing wrong with repurposing the word.

"Blend" just reminds me of coffee, TBH.

So would it be interesting if the less creatures in your family tree the less repspected you are among magi?

Sharysa was right in the fairy hybrids topic: please don't doublepost. Just edit your posts.

</mod hat>

That could be interesting. Quite the inversion of Harry Potter's "blood purity" thing.

This sound like a good word for magical folk? Magi.

And here's a ranking system. In ascending order.

Enchanter

Witch

Wizard

Sorcerer.

Magi could work, though it's actually an old term for astrologers, stargazers and Zoroastrian priests.

Reminds me of the Three Wise Men from the Bible.

So possible advantges human blood could give magi over pure blooded creatures?

Well, I liked the idea you had earlier (was it in this thread or over PM?) where you said that they could have extra powers relating to the personalities and abilities of their non-magical parents.

Well since that won't work now maybe all magi develop powers relating to personality. And what could be the term for personality powers? So any complications immortality could cause? One would be birth certifcates and such. So yeah magic system's been scrapped. Magical people are now simply networks of part human-part (although other stuff can add powers to bloodlines) other stuff families each with their own combinations of powers unique to them, and each member has some personality powers.

could you post more of the story? It's really hard keeping track of how the story is affected by the magic system if you post one and not the other, especially if they are linked and one keeps on changing.

Okay, so from the earlier threads we have something like this?

  • setting: modern day Australia, to avoid alternate histories and building a Constructed World a masquerade of sorts is in place.
  • Characters: members of a Witch Species and assorted normal(s), badass normal(s), and badass abnormal(s).
  • Location: Saint Cyprian Academy Of The Magical Sciences a magical school, specifically a boarding school of horrors. anywhere else?
  • scope: generally family related, but includes things like outer-space
  • theme: (unless I'm using the wrong definition [lol]) starts out grimdark and ends somewhere in the ball park of bittersweet ending, lots of character development, again lots of family related stuff.
  • medium: a series of novels, plus some short stories, and has a definite ending.
  • source materials: a de(re)construction of Harry Potter, any others?

Am I getting it right?

Yep. Also there seem to be some transhumanist themes.

So I guess one of the main themes in this is family, most of the characters have some weird stufff with them. And the grandparents...

Everything's looking good to me. I'm not a Harry Potter fan, but I can see where you're coming from with this. Now all that's left is to start writing. :)

Delayed growing up?

But Takwin's right, it looks to me like you're at the stage where you'd be best off starting writing rather than worrying over worldbuilding minutiae.

(Also, dude, seriously, be patient. I can't be checking the thread every waking minute. o_o;)
