Since so many people here are writers/artists and there's that karaoke thread in Yack Fest, I'm just wondering if I'm the only person who's in the performing arts.

Hopefully I'm not.

You're not—I play clarinet. Those three years in Marching Band hold a lot of fond memories for me.

Assuming we're referring here to drama, including musical theatre, as opposed to general musicianship... I am in my University's Gilbert And Sullivan Society. Yep. I'M SO COOL. Currently rehearsing for my part as John Wellington Wells in The Sorcerer.

Was in band for three years of my life. I and a few other select students were chosen one year to participate in the Hollywood Christmas parade as temp. members of Hollywood High's marching band. That was an interesting experience. I've since abandoned music.

I spent my last year of high school in theatre class. I rather liked it and now I'm wishing I had joined sooner...Stayed in the class. Gotten involved in the club. That sort of thing. But I didn't and hey there's always college and shit beyond that. Not entirely sure how to go about getting into this acting thing...It's something I rather like.

Yes, performing arts means music, theater, or dance.

And yay, people answered!

Oh and I was in dance class for a semester because I needed the credits. I hated it for the most part. Not a dancer it seems and my classmates weren't terribly nice...The teacher told them off though...

And I liked the West Side Story project. That was fun...

Actor/singer, by the way. *is forgetful*

I'm double-majoring in Theater and Psychology, but Psychology is mostly to keep my mom off my back (although I really do like psychology, aside from how it alternates between fascinating and depressing-as-fuck.)

I'm thinking of double majoring in those things...I love the fuck out of both...Though I wouldn't be doing it to keep people off my back. I'd be doing it because I love those topics and if my family doesn't like it fuck them I'm doing it anyway. Thankfully they don't seem to mind the psychology thing and won't bitch too much about theatre so I don't have to go "RAGH FUCK YOU".

Oh, if we're including music as well, than I was in my High School and College jazz bands playing Alto Saxophone, and at University I'm in the Choir (singing Tenor) and I'm in a jazz quintet, doing pub gigs and the like.

When it comes to theatre though, I can only do Pantomime and G&S, mostly because my acting is terrible and can be summarised as Large Ham + Camp + Over-Acting like hell. I can't do serious emotion for toffee.

I feel goofy about serious emotion, but apparently I can get into it somewhat...So said my teacher and other various people...

I NEED PRACTICE. I MUST SHARPEN MY SKILLS SO THAT I MAY ONE DAY PLAY LAURA. And other people. But most definitely Laura Wingfield at some point in my life.

If I said that to my mom, I'd get the shit smacked out of me SO hard.

Generally I think it'd be awesome to be a therapist by day and an actor by night.

Oh my mother would smack me. And I'd smack her back. And we'd be pissed at each other for a good long while. It's happened before. Granny would just yell.

See, I wouldn't smack my mom because I wouldn't want her to yell at me. You have no idea how much WORSE it is when she yells, because she can go on and on for an hour and I'd have to listen to it all.

Also, I'm a super-low mezzo. Acting wise, I swing wildly between drama and comedy. Dramedy is my heart.

Oh the yelling would be happening already and would continue happening. But I'd be pissed and stubborn and I'm a bitch when angry...

But see, my mom's Filipino. Yelling back at her would be familial heresy and no matter how much I try, I can't shake the concept that blood is Thicker Than Water. Stupid Asian background.

Back on topic: I'm currently in my college's theater group. We're fund-raising to go to Scotland and about ten of us are hoping to bring the house down at the Edinburgh theater festival.

Theatre kid here. Not very good, but lucky enough to have a school with an awesome creative arts program. Somehow managed to become a member of the international thespian society.

Everyone keeps saying they're not that good. :( You guys can't be THAT bad. 90% of acting is rehearsing and hard work.

And, you know, confidence.

[up][up] Everyone is their own worst critic. And I think I'm terrible at everything :P

So let's focus on us being awesome. Everyone, what have you performed in lately?

I performed in a cabaret, and sang Glee's version of I Want To Hold Your Hand. People liked it.

Also, hoping to audition for my group's urban take on Alice In Wonderland. I either want to be the Red Queen or the Caterpillar. The Red Queen because I would get to use my usual dose of Cluster F Bombs, and the Caterpillar because I'd get to pretend to be high on opium.

But we're still working things out, so I don't even know which characters will be in the play yet.
