First thing's first: KEEP. THIS. SHIT. CIVIL. If you can't talk about race without resorting to childish insults and rude generalizations or getting angry at people who don't see it your way, leave the thread.
With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.
First, a few starter questions.
- How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
- Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
- Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
- Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
- Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?
Also, a personal question from me.
- Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

I can't decide between what's a bigger middle finger to the CSA, that song or Marching Through Georgia.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I have two hands and two perfectly usable middle fingers. I'll play both songs, preferably 24/7 over the state capitol. (Hey if GA can add Confederate regalia to the state flag, then its only right we recognize Sherman's march.)

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesI am enjoying the Dixie Union version way more than I should and I am not even American.
Just go with a shirt stamped with Sherman's portrait and General Sherman burn it again written on it, or something of a similar vein to Bomber Harris do it again.
Inter arma enim silent leges"“It should never have been a controversy,” Benton said. “We’re not honoring slavery.” "
remenber what I said about "just happen"? well this is a good example "we honor our solder that fight for their states right they see as just....Juuuuuuust happen to include slave, nothing really, just a funny thing it was there"
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Just something nice to listen.
So, Midnight on Comedy Central started a "#JapanAMovie" hashtag. It's currently trending among the top topics on Twitter, and it's pretty much entirely comprised of "ha ha sushi. Ha ha soy sauce. Ha ha accents. Ha ha Hiroshima ('cause that's funny). Ha ha cultural reference that's actually Chinese but hey what's the difference they all look the same."
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."That's redundant. The Stupid Yet Awesome caricature is called Ninja Slayer. The clever yet brutal satire is called Paranoia Agent. What more do you want?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. There's one in there that references Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, which I don't think is too terrible.
No video games or anime? You know, the two things Japan is most well-known for? No ninjas or samurai either?
It was the #1 top trending topic on Twitter. There were just a couple more examples than just the 30 or so tweets featured in the linked thread.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."....
I... don't really have any words.....
You could always try digging deeper, although Racist Twitter is only slightly less mind-frying without Malaysians contributing.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot@Bat: There was some anime here and there, but it was mostly surface-level stuff like DBZ.
Though I guess video games have become a more North American/European thing since Gen 7 (When most of these people started gaming, assuming some of them are gamers) anyways, at least on consoles. Japanese developers are mostly restricted to handhelds nowadays.
Wow. I thought that Comedy Central generally had more class than that.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Doesn't South Park air on Comedy Central? That ain't exactly the classiest show on television.
Still, even South Park does better than...whatever the fuck that was, most of the time at least.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I look forward to when we receive the usual indifferent "it was not our intention to cause offense" non-apology.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."À propos of nothing: this is the only discussion thread that I'm glad when it doesn't show up on my thread watchlist.
Because when it does pop up, I'm invariably treated to some depressing testament to the cruelty of humans.
I'm seriously glad I swore off social media a couple of years ago if this is the #1 trending topic on twitter.
A warning: I'm going to go on a rant, so expect a wall of text below.
A question for any Asian troper: "Have you ever find that a non-Asian's idolization of your culture to be so fanatical that you consider that person to be not right in the head or at least creepy?"
I have no problem with non-Asian liking our culture, but sometimes they do it to the point of being mind-boggling. I mean I have met people who claim that sexual harassment on women or casual misogyny in Asia to be not a problem at all and anyone who claim that it's a problem is unfair because Saudi Arabia is much worse on this stuff and/or just racist who want to paint Asia as a misogynistic den of human's depravity or something like that.
Ugh... what Saudi Arabia is doing here? Not only that this is racist toward them, from the way that they speak about Saudi Arabia, it's obvious that they consider that place to be the worst place on earth. So, in their mind, we're just a step up of the worst place on earth. Yup, middle-easterners are apparently just a cheap knock-off of Asians. They have all the bad qualities of Asians, but not even one of their good qualities like elegance, culture, or even civilized society. Ugh...
And the second excuse is as bad as the first one. For a bunch of people trying to defend my culture from being branded as a misogynistic den of human's depravity, they are doing a better job than the "haters." And I use quotes there because they are haters only in the mind of those "valiant" defenders of my culture. I see nothing wrong with them pointing out problems in Asia because, not only that it's true, you also can't fix a problem if you don't know that you have one. There is nothing wrong with that, but, of course, Asia (especially East Asia since, most of the times, when those people talk about Asia, they talk about them. East Asia is the one true Asia!!!) has the best culture ever!!! And thus, it has no problem!!! Ugh...
In the mind of those people, Asia can do no wrong at all or at least the part of Asia that they like. ...what the fuck is wrong with those people? I have met people who think that the CCP is good and justified in their attempt to obtain "One True China", the war crimes of Imperial Japan is greatly exaggerated and consequently Japan isn't as bad as other members of the Axis, Myanmar is justified to purge those Muslims because they are the "real" victims here and Islam is evil, India is consequently justified to make a "Hindu" nation because Islam is evil, and so on...
I'm Asian and I seriously think that this is a serious problem. So, I find it reprehensible that anyone can claim that this isn't a problem. I find it even more mind-boggling when non-Asians do it. If Asians do it, the reason is more obvious than obvious, nationalism. They always have excuses or justifications to claim that it isn't nationalism, but, most of times, it's sophistry and plain madness for the rest. I can't understand why non-Asian do it, though. I know why they do it. I just don't think why they would do it for those reasons. I mean, most of the times, the reasons are bullshit.
I mean defending CCP (and other problems with Chinese culture) because of those wuxia novels or defending Imperial Japan (and other problems with Japanese culture) because of anime just seem insane and don't make any sense at all. Heck, I still can't understand why one of my former friends defend slavery (especially sexual slavery) just because he likes LN about making harem with sex slaves. Seriously, that is one of the worst reasons to defend slavery and there is no good reason to defend slavery at all.
This is the end of my rant. For those who read it, thank you for taking some of your time to read it. I need to vent a bit.
Only an experienced editor who has a name possesses the ability to truly understand my work - What 90% of writers I'm in charge of said.I've actually never met people like this in real life or on-line so far. I hope that doesn't change any time soon. That kind of condescending Positive Discrimination is patronizing as hell and trivializes the very real problems we have as meaningless.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI've never encountered this specific type personally, but from what you're describing it seems to be part of a larger culture of fetishizing the 'exotic'. I have seen it happen in different contexts, and it's problematic no mater who does it to whom.
