With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.
First, a few starter questions.
- How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
- Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
- Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
- Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
- Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?
Also, a personal question from me.
- Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

Anne Frank was 12 when she went in to hiding and 14 when she died of typhoid in I believe Belsen? Not sure. It could have been Berknau. Someone who cares more than I do can look it up.
Point is she was a kid who was only of age of consent if you are going by the 1500s or 1600s. (Cultures vary)

1550?1600? Put 1700, if not 1800 in there. I remember something about a clausule in the marriage of Dom John VI of Portugal to not touch his wife until she was 15, when the marriage was when she was 10. Mind, you the difference of age was of 8 years.
In fact, scrap the concept of age of consent entirely. I don't think women had even right of consent until the past century.

The point is this story is dispicable and encourages an unhealthy mindset.
If anything the fact that child marital rape and what not is still around should be a big red flag we shouldn't be encouraging stories like this and romanticizing dangerous and unhealthy relationships.

IIRC the age of consent is 14 in most of Europe and Latin America and averaging at 16 in the US, with Mexico having the lowest at 12 years old.

Not really, until some people could get their heads out of their asses over the demonization of sex, a 18 year old guy could go to jail for dating a 15 year old girl.
For social acceptance of a huge age discrepancy between couples is another matter.

Angelusnox: An 18 year old is a lot more mature than a 15 year old. I know we can't actually use it in our laws but the XKCD age rule is a pretty good metric.

Yeah yeah, it is like I've never seen mid teen girls go after sugar daddies or 30 old something men go after 16 year old girls because they think they are easy.
But for 18 year old dating a 15 year old the maturity argument isn't as arbitrary as a fully grown person dating someone half their age, being 18 doesn't make you automatically mature and being 15 doesn't make you immature or stupid. Even if you go around with the argument that people are inherently stupid, criminalizing a minor age gap between consenting parties is a stupid move, which can put people in jail for the crime of being young and horny.
Specially when the age gap isn't over 4 years, while not socially acceptable it is hardly criminal.

I don't know how it is in other states but I believe in PA you can date someone up to four years younger than you as long as you're under 20.

The (sickeningly) low age of consent in México it's because many parts of our legal system haven't been changed since the Mexican Revolution, and if I remember my history lessons correctly, those specific laws were put in place during the 19th century so the patrones could rape their servants and get away with it.
So no, this has nothing to do with what the indigenous peoples of México wanted. In fact, many of us want harsher laws to protect our children because, unfortunately, the lack of education makes us an easy target for foreigners and non-indigenous Mexicans who like to abuse this particular law.
