First thing's first: KEEP. THIS. SHIT. CIVIL. If you can't talk about race without resorting to childish insults and rude generalizations or getting angry at people who don't see it your way, leave the thread.
With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.
First, a few starter questions.
- How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
- Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
- Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
- Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
- Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?
Also, a personal question from me.
- Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

Is...that a thing? Really? Jews won't fight? The people whose old testament god is as bloody as an aztec one, and half of the books of the OT are about beating the snot out of other people with leaders like the maccabees and joshua? Is "Jews don't fight!" seriously a stereotype?
Also...they...do supposedly have that thing, right, about uh. 12 brothers and they can only marry/sleep within those 12 tribes of 12 brothers. Little bit incest-y but hey. Works for those times to establish a specific culture and such, no?
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesMost of the Torah was written in Babylonian captivity as a rally to keep themselves together so you can have a healthy doubt over the accuracy of the pages, then you have reason.
But that's pushing off topic.
"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurYeah the torah/OT stuff is more to the religion thread but this is the first time I hear the "jews are cowards" stereotype as something that even existed...! Which is why I ask
Then again, I do know so little about jews and stuff since there are so few in here. It is mostly catholics and protestants over here
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesThe Hasidic Jews have a history of being conscious objectors and refusing to fight.
Oshkanasi (probably butchered the spelling all to hell) are another sect that are really Orthodox and have rubbed people funny.
Not like the Sikhs. After the mass genocide knowing martial arts became just as strong a mandate as the iron bangle, turbon, and orange. To this day that tradition is both revered and makes them sought out fighters.

Uh, no. Ashkenazi is just the word for Jews of Germanic/Eastern European descent (as opposed to Sephardi Jews who are of Spanish/Portuguese descent and Mizrahi Jews who are of Middle Eastern descent). The vast majority of American Jews (most of whom like myself are fairly secular) are Ashkenazi.
I think you're probably thinking of Haredi Jews, who are a mix of Ashenazi and Sephardic- Haredi is a religious sect; Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Mizrahi are ethnic groups.
The cowardice stereotype is associate with Eastern European Jews, and is probably a combination of a couple of things- Jews were seen as weak/not resisting in face of oppression from Tzarist Russian and later Nazi Germany. More benignly (at least generally), there's a stereotype of Jewish and Nerdy and nerdiness is usually associated with physical weakness.
@Aszur- That's a weird understanding of the "Twelve Tribes of Israel". Yeah, supposedly Jews are descended from them (well, I guess only two of them since 10 of the 12 were "lost"). However, even if it is true, you're still looking at people descended from within a "tribe"; not necessarily everyone descended from one or two guys. Besides that, even though Jews have until recently married within the religion, between Biblical times and the Middle Ages, there's definitely a fair amount of intermarriage going on.
Jews are somewhat "inbred" (they're among the populations that have a high instance of the disease Tay-Sachs); however, endogamy =! Brother–Sister Incest.

Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiAnd of course, to make things more complicated there are the Ethiopian Jews, the Beta Israel.
Keep Rolling OnBlood related cousins is still incest by definition, no? Of course this is assuming that throughout history, all jews have exclusively married with their cousins. Which is a ridiculous thought and impossible notion, but by concept, the "Marry only between the descendants of your cousins" is rather incest- to me.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesCousin marriage is actually something that has varied by time and culture, and still occurs todaynote .
Keep Rolling OnStill has that implication of genetical risk though!
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesPolice leave minorities feeling black and blue, as more investigations into racial profiling come out across the country.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswNinja: I'm shocked. Seriously though, I don't know whether to be happy that they're investigating it, hopeless because I know they'll hide whatever the find, or angry that it took them this long
“My loathings are simple. stupidity, oppression, crime, cruelty, soft music." -Vladimir NabokovA chapter of the KKK has been seen distributing fliers threatening "lethal force" against Ferguson protesters last week. Anonymous decided to respond by trading threats with them, at one point proceeding to dox several alleged members of the Klan, then they hacked their Twitter account and took over it, posting various messages afterwards.
No sympathy for the KKK, obviously. They're the Asshole Victim around here.
I recently read and reviewed a book about the mass murders and ethnic cleansings of Eastern Europe during World War Two—fascinating but very depressing. It's also sadly relevant to what's going on in the Ukraine. http://www.skjam.com/2014/11/15/book-review-bloodlands-europe-between-hitler-and-stalin/
The book I reviewed after that was about George Washington and the Constitutional Convention, and talks a bit about why slavery was enshrined in the founding document of the USA. http://www.skjam.com/2014/11/19/book-review-the-return-of-george-washington-1783-1789/
Anon did go one step too far by posting pictures of KKK members children (minors should not be made to answer for their parents crimes) but other than that...the scum have it coming.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Does anyone else find funny how people that are by definition and name, Anonymous, getting into fights by people known to mask their faces, are calling each other cowards and such?
I mean I hate the KKK as much as the next guy, but that aspect at least sounds silly.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesWell, yeah, but the Klan are white supremacists. Judging people on their appearance is their raison d'être. If you're not even willing to show off the glory of your purebred Anglo-Saxon form when you're lighting a cross on someone's lawn, what's the point?
What's precedent ever done for us?It's just as funny as accepting minority memberships. Though the only way they will is if that minority agrees they are subservant and lesser than the white man...
Blah.
They need to keep dying their slow death. But honestly, the KKK is the least of the white supremacists that are of concern. There are much more active and dangerous groups out there like the White Revolution. The Aryan Brotherhood doesn't have a large US presence outside of our prison system (they're wicked strong in there) but they're pretty influential out there in the international community.
"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurStill the "Anonymous vs Anonymous" thing is kinda funny to me.
So wait, that is how that one KKK thing that "accepts" other skin colored people works out? They accept them as long as they enter fully uh..."knowing" that they are inferior and whatnot?
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesAnd given how huge and entrenched the American prison-industrial complex is (almost 1% of the U.S. population are behind bars), having so many prisons be effectively run by neo-Nazis is a pretty terrifying thing. I mean, it's not like ex-cons forget all they've learned when they come out.

What's precedent ever done for us?@Aszur, I agree, the Anon v Anon concept is extremely amusing in an odd way.
@Gabrael, I'm sure USA's culture just ignores those so we continue living in ignorance that "racism is gone now because those KKK guys are a joke! Other organizations? No such thing!"

The Blog The ArtAll that the KKK "opening up to minorities" means is that it will join arms with people like the Nation of Islam and they'll feed each other's pathetic fantasies. People are forgetting that white supremacists also tend to be white nationalists. White and black nationalism are not mutually exclusive, and both white and black nationalists have a history of working together to promote each other. Indeed, the fellow in the video is a former Grand Dragon of the KKK, who called Louis Farrakhan and the NOI "the black counterpart to us" at a NOI rally. C*nts of a feather flock together.
White and black nationalists also have a convenient common enemy - TEH JOOZ!

Schild und Schwert der ParteiPrison is more gang violence than anything. If you don't pick a side, you're screwed. MS-13, Aryan Brotherhood, Black Guerrilla Family, NETA, La Nuestra Familia, Texas Syndicate, DMI, Nazi Low Riders, jeebuz it goes on and on...
But most of these are divided by racial or cultural lines, so you have to stick with your color most of the time if you want to survive.
EDIT: Mousa, actually, depending who you are you are very much aware. Unless you see it, you're not really going to know about it. But those who live in poverty or are involved with Law Enforcement are very aware of the gangs. Again, more overt displays are done in prison where people don't see it. That doesn't mean you can't find it in your area.
This isn't like the 20s where Capone was easily accessible. But every beat cop can tell you the territory lines.

"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurPersonally, I think focusing on white-supremacy groups is a little distracting. Obviously they're pieces of shit who deserved everything coming to them, but still. Sometimes I think the only way to get any attention about racism is to burn a cross.
“My loathings are simple. stupidity, oppression, crime, cruelty, soft music." -Vladimir NabokovNah, some of them are nasty but it's the Sovereign Citizen like people you gotta stamp out. Look at Bundy and that ranch fiasco.
Luckily those groups tend to intersect so we could knock out two domestic terrorist birds with one stone.
Oh really when?
Matrilineal heritage makes sense though. You always know who the mother is at the time of birth, but sometimes the identity of the father is a bit fuzzier.
Not Three Laws compliant.
