First thing's first: KEEP. THIS. SHIT. CIVIL. If you can't talk about race without resorting to childish insults and rude generalizations or getting angry at people who don't see it your way, leave the thread.
With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.
First, a few starter questions.
- How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
- Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
- Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
- Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
- Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?
Also, a personal question from me.
- Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

Folks, this is neither a discussion about doxxing nor a place to import drama about bigots to.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIn England, Edward Colston's statue is back on display in a Bristol museum.
Colston was the wealthy slave trader whose name is/was on many Bristol buildings. After the murder of George Floyd, and several previous attempts to get his statue taken down, the people of Bristol scrawled graffiti on it, pulled it off its plinth and threw it into the harbour.
Four people were prosecuted but found not guilty by a jury. There's no doubt that they did it, the jury just decided that they were justified in doing so (several government ministers were not happy about that).
(Bristol's mayor Marvin Rees, who is Black, asks a good question - the four people who actually pulled it down were white. Would things have gone the same way if they weren't?)
I caught the initial M Shed exhibition after the statue was retrieved from the harbour - they'd taken great care to keep the graffiti undamaged while cleaning the harbour gunk off, and to preserve the placards that had been recovered from protestors.
Really glad to see that's still a feature of the new exhibition as well.

Note that there had not just been attempts to get the statue taken down, an attempt was made to include information alongside the statue on his role in the slave trade and how it got him his riches. That compromise was blocked by local politicians if my memory serves correctly.

Disgusted, but not surprisedLondon often forgets too.
Westminster forgets, London would assert itself as a city-state equal in the U.K. to the countries if it could.

Did it have any actual power?
And from what was posted above, it sounds like this was just for the House, not the Senate. Which for those that don't know, is currently controlled by Republicans. The Senate is controlled by Democrats.
The US is going to change how it tracks race/ethnicity per announcement from the Office of Management and Budget. Big takeaways I'm seeing:
- Race and ethnicity are to be combined into one single question (previous SOP was to ask them separately) w.r.t Latino/Hispanic, which is no longer separately asked from other race questions but will be another option alongside White/Black/etc.
- New option for "Middle Eastern or North African" as a top-level category.
- May explicitly choose more than one option as the respondent wishes to identify as.
- More detailed collection of specific race/ethnicity data in order to facilitate more granular statistical study.

The attack on Crocus City Hall and how the suspects are "treated" is an example of Russian chauvanism/nationalism in how they treat anyone who's Muslim, especially in Syria, Libya, Central African Republic, Sudan.
Werent they captured on the scene after killing over 100 people? With the whole incident on camera? Like at that point I am amazed there even still alive.
Like I dont doubt russia treats ethnic minorities like shit, I wouldnt be suprised by regular police abuses or even covering up much worse practices given there track record.
But I feel like there are probaly much better people out there to use as examples.

Everything I’ve seen says they were captured beyond the city on the highway, with the Russians government claims that they were fleeing towards Ukraine. The footage release was done by ISIS centrally.
So the assertion that they’ve got the actual attackers and not four random Tajik immigrants is one that is backed up only by one’s truth in the Russian government.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranSeems you are right about the first part, but the video release was done public to the press with the BBC having access to the original, and confirming that the suspects in question match the video they were given...
Though they refuse to share the video of the attack for obvious reasons.
While I don't trust the Russian government, I do trust the BBC.... and also wonder if it was a frame-job why Russia wouldn't just grab four Ukranian immigrants since they keep trying to pin the blame on Ukraine any way.

Came across some articles regarding racism encountered by the Kurds in Japan. One particular issue is being accused of terrorism. The Japan Kurdish Cultural Organization issued a statement saying that they don't advocate for terrorism even though Ankara froze their assets in Turkey.

Welp, I definitely have an idea who those posts were talking about.
Anyhow, I just remembered that yesterday was the date when the Confederacy States of America surrendered. Next year would mark 160th years.
My favorite insult toward the Confederacy is that Obama's presidency lasted twice as long than that.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.I've got mixed feelings about this since I've always felt the Confederates got off too easy after losing the war. Maybe if the USA hadn't been so lenient and handled Reconstruction so poorly we wouldn't have to put up with Lost Causer bullshit to this day.
Disgusted, but not surprised
