A part of me is often kind of sad that they scrapped their original plan to talk about that time in Metal Gear Rising, actually. That could've been interesting, at least to me.
Oh well, at least we can still hope for a game with the Boss in the future.
"I do not approve of the fact that my favorite quotes are too long for this character limit." - MeI'm still hoping that Kojima is holding Cobra Unit for the Grand Finale or, at least, his final game in the franchise.

It would most likely be highly advised if you took any chatter regarding MGSV over to the other forum, yeah.
Why the need for another forum in regards to V?
Why not? I mean, we're about to have ghosts haunt Big Boss, so why not be treated to watching Raiden descend into what he is by 2014?

Because this is a general thread. The other one is specifically for the game. The game-specific one is usually where spoilers go.
Why do we have to do that? I mean, we talk about spoilers from earlier games here, so what's there to lose if we talk about V's plot bits here?

There's something oddly satisfying about the idea of his last games being remakes of MG 1 and 2, but considering what it would probably take to make a WWII Cobra Unit game, that wouldn't surprise me either.
Because MGSV is a current game that came out after these forums were created. And like others have said, there's a good number of people here who wanna avoid anything related to MGSV spoilers until TPP comes out, and they don't wanna have to blacklist all of their MGS places to do that.

"I do not approve of the fact that my favorite quotes are too long for this character limit." - MeI see. Sorry, it's just that, if there's something I say not related to what's currently going, it winds up ignored, like, much earlier, I asked how Zanzibar Land can afford mercenaries, and no one answered.

Gene gave him all the resources from Army's Heaven before he died.
Or if you subscribe to the theory that Portable Ops is noncanon, he amassed the money it during his days as a mercenary.
Those can explain MSF, but not so much Zanzibar Land, which happens almost three decades later. I personally think that after NATO bombs Outer Heaven, Zanzibar Land gets built through whatever funds BB had left plus some help from Ocelot and other allies.
"I do not approve of the fact that my favorite quotes are too long for this character limit." - MeI don't think it's unreasonable to assume that Big Boss might have left some stashed away "just in case".
Probably one of the few sane things he'd do at that point, then.
"I do not approve of the fact that my favorite quotes are too long for this character limit." - MeGuys, I was talking about how Zanzibar Land can afford mercenaries, since according to the Metal Gear 2 manual, Zanzibar Land was just a piece of territory that decided to sue for independence after the Soviet Union fell apart, only for it to be opposed, with its independence guaranteed thanks to the many mercenaries the territory hired.

Best answer is probably that Kojima never really thought that through. The plot of the original MGS games is pretty cliché and thin, after all.
Well, as suggested, it could be possible that Big Boss kept some of Gene's funds in reserve and used those towards Diamond Dogs, Outer Heaven, or Zanzibar Land. Its also not unreasonable to suggest that Big Boss and Kaz saved up the profits MSF made, and then spent those on Diamond Dogs; which we can assume makes its own money, which would in turn go towards Outer Heaven along with some of FOXHOUND's paycheck.
Another thing to consider is that many of Zanzibar's soldiers came from both sides of Outer Heaven, and, like Kyle Schneider, feel they owe their lives to Big Boss; in which case money isn't nearly as much of an issue. And if any of the mercs at Zanzibar Land agreed with Big Boss's philosophy, money exists for the sole purpose of getting more guns.

She/TheyIf I recall, didn't George Kasler fight there and lost a leg, hence why he isn't a mercenary anymore, meaning that not all mercs fought with Big Boss, and most of those mercs may have fought there to feed their families.
Speaking of Metal Gear 2, the manual lists Holly as blue-eyed. Does she look blue-eyed◊?
edited 7th Apr '14 10:07:52 AM by HallowHawk
Not really, but that might be the result of hardware limitations or something. Or somebody in programming not reading the manual, or that fluff being decided on after the fact, or whatever.
I see, thanks
Speaking of Holly, anyone get the feeling Cecile might be her mother, since Holly's mentioned to be half-French, and that Cecile may have married a Britishman post-1975?
Don't know enough to comment, haven't played Metal Gear 2 or finished Peace Walker.
Well, assuming Cecile wasn't taken by either Cipher or XOF during or shortly after her return to France, it could technically be possible. Spoilered for people avoiding GZ.
Granted, Cecile exists mostly to foreshadow Peace Walker's twist (and provide some humour at Miller's expense). Honestly I doubt we'll ever hear of Holly again unless Kojima does change his mind on remaking the MSX games.

Well, I think I know that I've started to go off the deep end—I waited three days for this to get sorted out, but I finally now have my custom URL for my blog. Now if only the posts I put on it were actually quality ones.
Metal Gear Solid and Uncharted movies update.
I'm not gonna lie—for obvious reasons, I'm a little nervous here. My inner optimist is trying to be pumped, but still.

"I do not approve of the fact that my favorite quotes are too long for this character limit." - MeMetal Gear is probably the best possible source material for a video game movie, at least. It's probably still going to be awful, but the odds are only 98% instead of 100%.
I sure said that! It's already a movie really
Oh really when?
Oh god I hope not. I like Raiden too much.
