Oh, Evoga was a Mexican company? That explains both the influx of Mexican characters and Pepe from Rage of the Dragons speaking fluent Spanish.
Now that is a funny story. Game dev studios should make more bets like this, if they tend to result in us fans getting characters like Angel.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. The blatant disregard of permission for using the Ro D characters in Matrimelee is kind of messed up though.
I guess that is the reason they weren't included on the PS 2 port.
So at the time of '98, SNK didn't know that mexicans were the bomb at KOF...
So Mr. Angel Torres is a guy. Cool, I actually know a couple of guys named Angel here... with the correct Spanish pronunciation of course.
What's the official pronunciation of KOF's Angel, BTW? English Angel or Spanish "Ang-hel"?
My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Spanish one for sure, I think the official site even noted that.
I have to admit, Angel is kind of cool even if I can't play her and she has an annoying voice.
It's Ang-hel, though you'll hear mixups every now and then.
I sure said that!Psycho Soldiers are up. Nothing new since everything's pretty much revealed, but y'know.
Never my favorite team. Cool name, but I never cared for them that much.
I can finally do Yashiro's BC cancel combos in 2002 UM again... so it's all coming back to me now, and I think I'm almost ready for the release.
Looks like I'm gonna be using Sylvie/Athena/Clark/Ryo, I'll just pick three.
Question to the people who played the XIV demo: Does the Max Mode cancel make the character automatically run forward? That would be cool, but I don't expect it.
My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Woot, awesome, can't believe they did that!
So much for practicing running after BC cancel...
My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Watching playthroughs of the NEST saga made me realize what a lousy Big Bad Igniz was, story wise. Like his motivations made no sense. I WILL BECOME A GOD! er how? BY BEATING THE KING OF FIGHTERS! But how does accomplishing this bring you to godhood?
and man 2001 had such a weak soundtrack. Every track sounded the same. Not to mention the stages came in like 3 colors, and the character select portraits were gonky and Off-Model. Not my favorite KOF.
Still think 99's rainy level is one of the best stages in the franchise. And Kriz is definitely one of the best KOF bosses. The build up in his fight, the background and dear Fallen Angel just makes it quite memorable.
To be fair, 2001 was supposed to be very different from what we got. Heck, Krizalid was supposed to pull a Heel–Face Turn and join up with K' for the tournament. Of course, this was before SNK went bankrupt, which squashed any chance of that happening.

And his next goal involved droppinf a space station on everyone thinking it'd nuke the planet or something. What, was it packed with nukes or evil energy or powered by Chaos Emeralds or something?
I don't GET the Colony Drop trope. If it ain't rocking a fusion reactor or nuclear reactor or immense ancient power or even aimed at a major population center, what damage could it likely do? Sure maybe a few animals or some unlucky jabroni gets squashed but if it just lands in a field, on a mountain or even in the ocean, not much harm done.
My point is Igniz is dumb/.

But he said he's Loveable! Who could hate Loveable Igniz? (Everyone)
A corpse should be left well enough alone...As a wise man once said, " 'Loveable Igniz' my buttpipe. "

I've never been a huge fan of Athena, and I lost interest in Chin after they changed his moveset, but for some reason I'm really digging Kensou. In XIII he was my primary "I don't feel like using my mains, why not?" character, and he seems pretty sleek here.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Sorry; meant to say, 'before SNK went bankrupt'. My bad.
Same difference! Why is the first time I hear of this???
... Wait, is this why it merged with Playmore to become SNK Playmore?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Yeeup. Why do you think there was a SNK Playmore in the first place? Heck, there wasn't even any merging; 'Playmore' was always SNK Playmore. Anyway, to make a long story short, due in part to SNK deciding to stick mainly to the arcades instead of moving their operations to home consoles as was popular at the time, as well as an a-hole corporation buying them out of house and home, SNK saw no choice but to declare bankruptcy in 2000, with KOF 2000 being one of the last games the original SNK ever produced. It wasn't long after that however that a few of their most popular titles such as KOF and Metal Slug got outsourced to Eolith, which is how we got KOF 2001 and the original 2002, which explains why both games ('01 especially,) turned out like they did. But everything comes around as they say, and in 2003, one of the original owners of SNK was able buy back all of SNK's properties and create SNK Playmore, which it remained until just last year when it was bought up by a big Chinese company and eventually renamed back to just plain ol' SNK. And that is the sad and sordid tale of how SNK fell down the gutter before rising like a phoenix from the ashes, for better or worse. (Though by this point, I'm pretty sure it's 'better'.)

This is such an amazing story. SNK getting salty over that first loss is hilarious. But betting 5000 bucks on a gaming match? People just throw away good money smh.
