We are living in a world where there is no more new Discworld book to look forward to after The Shepherd's Crown.
I am reading A Hat Full of Sky right now. Why are the pages wet with tears?
May you rest in peace, Pterry. Tell Mr. Death I said hello. So long, and thank you for everything.
Bite my shiny metal ass. What a shame. He was really one of the greatest authors of the past century.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.This.. just... pardon me... I have something in my eye.

My life was and is forever changed by the work of this man.
Today I wear the lilac.
I feel sad, but I feel even sadder, because after I learned Leonard Nimoy died, I thought, "Woah, first Monty Oum then Nimoy in just a month? This is a sad time for geeky people", and then, out of nowhere, I thought "Rule of Three". I wasn't really expecting anything to happen, though.
Got something in my eye as well
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Gonna rock the noble crest of Ankh-Morpork for a while, featuring the majestic hippos who, in times of trouble, will turn and run away.
A man is not dead while his name is still spoken. Speak his name.
The Shepherd's Crown, the final Discworld book is coming out in UK hardback August 27, 2015.
Great, my collection is not quite complete yet.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Shepherd's Crown is set for release on September 1st here in the States. After wasting $15 on Raising Steam, I think I'll wait for my library to pick up a copy rather than buy one myself.
Rumors I'm hearing about a certain character's death do not inspire confidence in the quality of the book with regards to the previous two books.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! No spoilers, please. (The one in was vague enough but I don't want it to lead to an extended discussion about spoilers - even in rumour form.)
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Shepherd's Crown was great. I mean, yes, it's pretty obvious that Sir Terry didn't have time to actually complete it before he passed away, as there are a few loose ends, but what's there is great and it was really nice to have one last adventure with Terry's amazing characters.
Still not trying to cry over the Reality Subtext of a certain early scene. You'll know what I'm talking about if you read the book.
R.I.P Sir Terry. He was one of the greatest authors of the late 20th century. The greatest thing is that he set out to write a satire of fantasy, and ended up creating a series that is far better than most serious fantasy books. And they're still funny. GNU Terry Pratchett
The reason that clichés become clichés is that they are the hammers and screwdrivers in the toolbox of communication. - Terry Pratchett.I finally a copy of The Sheppard's Crown from the library. I feel like this isn't going to be that fun to read.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. And I was right, that was heartbreaking.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Just finished The Shepherd's Crown. Surprisingly not shit considering what steaming piles Snuff and Raising Steam were.
A decent, though un-spectacular, entry. Not "final book" material, but them's the breaks.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Man with illness affected cognitive function doesn't have as quality output.
More at 11.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Didn't find that a valid excuse for Snuff and Raising Steam, don't find it so now.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Great.
Nobody cares.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. So I know very little about these books, but I picked one up at the local dollar store in town. The book is called The Last Continent, and I'm wondering if this is a good book to start with. I've read the first bit of it and find it really funny.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Er. No, that's not the one to start with.
There are VARIOUS different routes through the books, but none start there.
If you wanna go chronological, start with Color of Magic.
If you want to start a specific (mini-series), ask which one you should start with - for example, the Guards storyline starts with Guards! Guards!
^Eh, as mini-series go, the Rincewind ones are probably the easiest to pick up in the middle. You'll lose some of the running gags and character jokes, but it matters less with the silliness of the books.
It's of course better to read in some kind of order, but no harm in trying out some random ones first.
"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - BocajPratchett was always very good at making sure every book stood on its own. You can absolutely read a random Discworld book and enjoy it without having read anything that came before, but obviously it's way better if you have read them in order.
I've probably said this before, but in my opinion the best order to read them, for someone who's not in on it already, would be to start with Small Gods to get a feel of all of the elements that make these books great without having to know basically anything about the other books, and then, once you're in Discworld, read the rest in the order they were published.
The Last Continent is one of the best Rincewind books, IMO, and probably in the top-10 funniest Discworld books in general. If you want to start with that one it's fine; you'll just not know any of the wizards before you meet them in the book, and you won't know why Rincewind ended up in XXXX.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.I literally have no idea what you are all talking about, so I'm just gonna agree with the person above me and keep on reading.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
All good stories must come to an end.
I was just hoping we had a few more volumes to go.
