I think I'll just paraphrase Rich Burlew on this one.

Writing a story centered around your main antagonist is sort of difficult, because you risk "devillainifying" them. Yes, I just made that word up. What I mean though, is that once an audience has watched a character's life, with all of their personal struggles and trials and tribulations and such, it's more difficult to see the character as the Big Bad. The challenge here is to tell the story of Maleficent's life without making Maleficent even slightly sympathetic. I mean, she's wholly and unapologetically Evil, but more to the point, she's kind of a witch.

New on-set pictures. Looks like levitation will be a thing.

[up]Looks like levitation effects haven't progressed that much farther than Evil Dead's effects, just added a blue screen.

Also, those horns still look pretty much real.

I'm going into this with absolutely NO expectations. I can only be impressed, not disappointed.

Also, it's Jolie as Maleficent. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

Didn't Jolie already play a demonic female fantasy villain (Grendel's mother) in the last Beowulf film?

I think the Jolie we see on set isn't going to be how she looks in the movie. They'll proably use CGI to make the horns look more convincing and make the robes darker and more flowing or whatever. Because I can't see that (with the brown robes and long hair going down) as being how she'd look like for most of the film. wild mass guess

I disagree—having her wear dark robes and pinning up her hair would have been much easier than editing it later. However, we don't know that the couple pictures we have is what she mainly looks like in the movie, either. It could be a ten-minute portion.

That said, of course she's going to look like that. They're not going to keep her covered up and witchy looking. They want her to look gorgeous.

A little bit more about the story.

Huh. Didn't see that coming.

So does this mean Maleficent gets to be a Disney Princess?

[up] Probably, until she somehow loses it and turns into a monster that'll kill a baby for being snubbed.

I'm sure your wise decision to name your daughter Maleficent is not going to negatively affect her life at all, Yor Majesty.

Is it appropriate to make the Ursula is Triton's Half sister all along joke and now there hinting at Evil Princesses?

I hope the film won't ruin one of Disney's greatest villains.

The IM Db users have a point and I hope this film fails at the box office, because Malificent has a reputation as one of the greatest Disney VILLAINS of all time.

I skimmed the supposedly leaked script and, well, if it's the real deal I think I can safely cross this movie off my watch list.

Wow. Just... wow. Spoilers: and when I talk about a she, I'm talking about the writer, Linda.

She changed the ending. She changed the fucking ending. She made it so Phillip's kiss doesn't work, but Maleficient is the one watching over Aurora the whole time, and her kiss on the cheek is what wakes Aurora up. And even worse: she victimized EVERY SINGLE BAD GUY and every single good guy was turned into a fucking monster. This is Wicked, except instead of actual character development and a rather interesting look at the concept of bad/good portrayed by the original material, it's filled with bland dialogue, completely twisted characters, and did I mention SHE CHANGED THE ENDING OF THE FUCKING MOVIE? Heck, forget about the ending, did she even watch the movie? Maleficient is supposed to be evil incarnate. Except, here, she's a whiny bitch that's actually been good all along. GODFUCKINGDAMMIT WHAT A WASTED OPPORTUNITY!

I blame Christoper Nolan and Stephanie Meyer for this, myself.

Pills, people. Take them. We should at least wait to see if any of it is legit and if so, ever comes to fruition, the release date is still two years off from now. It's not the end of the world either way.

[up]... elaboration, please?

Well, right now, Nolan and Meyer are the ones largely responsible for bringing on this insane notion that everything has to be ANGSTY!!!! CRAWLING IN MY SKIN!!!!! in film to be taken seriously to the most recent generation of filmgoers. It looks to me like Disney's just following the set trend.
