A rename is needed: Disproportionate Retribution

Either dead or never made. Let's get on with the repair to Disproportionate Retribution, rather than continuing to wait on a YKTTW when there's no evidence the people who wanted it have bothered to make it. I'm about run out of patience with "I think this needs fixing, someone else fix it."

The YKTTW in question pre-existed the thread; that's why the issue came up. It's here.

Ah. But it's been moribund since the end of October — 2.5 months.

It looks like all it needs is for someone to clean it up and launch it under the name Slap On The Wrist, then. I'm flexing my mod-muscles and declaring it Up For Grabs.

EDITED IN: Come to think of it, why couldn't we just use a soft split for inversions, rather than a completely separate trope?

Because it's a different trope. *shrug*

Such is often the case for inversions.

The whole reason this was proposed for a rename was that someone felt that the name was incorrect because "Disproportionate" technically means "out of proportion" and could cover retribution that was too mild for the offense. But it's virtually never used that way. That's called getting a slap on the wrist. We're changing the trope pages to match the way the phrases are used in the real world.

So can we close this thread? A concenses seems to have been reached and there's another one on the same trope about the quotes.

I would be comfortable saying that the TRS-relevant issue has been pretty much settled; the sponsors of the YKTTW in question can carry on with the Sister Trope if they desire, but the question of Disproportionate Retribution's definition is resolved.
