I cut it. The trope requires that it be the animal itself who gets upset, and that the confusion be a Running Gag. There are no Real Life examples.

The Real Life examples of I Am Not Weasel are about 1/4 of the article. However, the trope states that it applies to "A Talking Animal (or at least someone who looks like one) is constantly mistaken for another species as a Running Gag."
