We can't move forward until the missing 4/5ths of SC story is slammed in. We need to figure out if Sophitia is dead or not (her profile changed from Dead to MIA IIRC), We need to follow Xiba, Lexia and friends, and we need to see what was Algol up to that required both Olcadan's and Master Edge's attention.

And WHERE THE HECK IS ZASALAMEL?!

They could also pull a MK 9 and include characters who weren't in the first game, but adapt the story for it to make sense that the others would be there.

Besides, I could easily see an in-depth story mode that stretched from Soul Blade to Soul Calibur III, with the final boss being Nightmare. Having Algol never made a ton of sense anyways since he kinda comes out of nowhere in the plot, and it wouldn't be too hard to fit Hilde into the story of Soul Calibur III.

They'd have to include IV — that's where Siegfried defeated Nightmare. Besides, as it stands the only character Algol canonically made contact with was Mitsurugi. His appearance could be made brief, and used to set up the next game. Assuming they were to do that, of course.

If they did reboot they could still cover material from more than one game. Again, to compare it to MK9, that covered the material from the first three games. SO I could easily see a SoulCalibur reboot that covers material from the beginning of the series up until the time skip between IV and V.

Honestly IV's plot just seems so out there that I often forget it. Algol comes out of nowhere, the tower makes no sense, and it just seems like it takes away from the past couple games rather than adds to it.

I think they realized they wrote themselves into a hole by the constant attempts to justify why Nightmare is still around even though Seig had been freed from Soul Edge up too the ridiculous point that Soul Edge had developed an affection for The Nightmare/Seigfried form that even though its using Raph's body its still fighting like Siegfried.

Algol seemed to be an attempt to shake that up

If Soul Edge is the titular antagonist... It really should just change hosts and forms per game... The problem is of course

Nightmare is so stupidly popular he has basically become the icon of Soul Calibur and getting rid of him or Not having him be the go to form of Soul Edge is seen as series suicide... before Lost Swords of course and us parading Sophitia around in the kinkiest stuff we could find without it being a straight up porn game.

It's starting to feel a little more likely that whatever game is coming next will be a 'Tag Tournament' style setup like others have mentioned here, if only for them to get old and new characters together without worrying too much about the story for now. It being the series' 20th anniversary could also point in that direction too, if they want this to be the 'celebration' game.

So long as the hypothetical 'story' doesn't become as much of a parody as most of the non-Mishimas in Tekken have become, I'd be fine with that. tongue

I'd be fine with that so long as Create-a-Soul was still in it. That's a feature I cannot see them removing.

And yet they already did that once, removing all the create-a-soul disciplines. Just like how they've previously removed team battle mode...

I just...

Soul Calibur 2 was perfect. Soul Calibur 3 was a different kind of perfect. How could you fuck that up?

I guess I'm just nostalgic because I've been playing SCII a bit lately, and wishing my PS 3 was backwards compatible in order to play some COTS and other stuff with my created characters. I'm sad that the series isn't what it once was. Earlier today I explained some of the story to a friend. When I got to "what happens after III", I could barely tell. When he asked me about if it's got a good competitive scene, I realized that at least among my type of player, this series is basically dead.

Sigh... I got into this series late, only starting with SCII. Still, 2-3 was amongst my favorite games, alongside Final Fantasy X and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. But when I think about how both of those are classics in classic series that have lasted decades, while the best Soul Calibur games are now two console generations behind us with no sign of anything of that quality on the horizon, it's disappointing.

If I recall, Algol awoke once Soul Calibur and Soul edge were starting to peak in their power. Somewhere between the events of CIV and the final showdown between Nightmare and Seigfied, Algol went into Astral Chaos to harness more power. Olcadan and Edgemaster wen in after him to monitor him ,I suppose. There's a lot of stuff they can cdo, just have it happening while SCV is going on. Heck, you can have VI be a prequel to V, filling in gaps from the 17 year time skip.

In regards to the future of the franchise, I won't mind if it got rebooted, but I'd rather have the 75% of V's plot completed and released before the reboot. I mean, we're already done with the Alexander/ra siblings, and a lot of V's plot was Left Hanging, so outright wanting a reboot at this point reeks of cowardice on Project Soul's part, especially with the retcons on the character profiles.

Doubt they could do that. V was hit with such a massive backlash, and it only grew over the years. They couldn't really continue from where V left off without adding more fuel to the fire, and I doubt Namco's going to take that risk. As I said, Daishi's vision for the series left when he did. It's already been hinted at what the future holds, both by the updated bios and the text passage at the beginning of Lost Swords. It seems we're headed back to the 16th century.

In regards to nightmare having his same appearance after Sigfried was freed, didn't most of its reputation in that era come from the azure knight persona?

It would make sense to capitalize on that in the mission of getting the rest of the soul edge to become complete.

But Soul Edge's mission is also to avoid those out to kill it till its back at full strength... Parading around as its most Iconic host is just asking for, Hey guys you failed to kill me HERE I AM!

Soul Edge just needed to have an image change or pull a Cervantes and find a way to lay low.

He actually did try to do that, but his Loony Fan decided to call Canon Discontinuity.

Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing VI continue with that story just so Nightmare can find a way to come back, and pound Tira into paste.

DO YOU BELIEVE I'M NIGHTMARE NOW YOU CRAZY BITCH?

Unfortunately, she'd probably be happy with that, but still.

I would imagine that is where the followers and pawns come into play. By the fourth game one of those people were later one of his pawns .

Recognition also ensures people keep looking for the so called sword of salvation which I imagine can cause a bit of chaos. It does mean enemies will be able to find you, but it just as easily means the same for potential pawns and servants and means you don't need to rebuild a reputation every time.

[down]Strangely I thought the same thing. I think it's the design of Soul Edge and how it almost looks like the way Patroklos would sheath his sword in his shield.

The legend will never die.....

I'm down for another Soul Calibur.....though i DO hope they've learned from V that some of us want our characters...you know LIKEABLE. Also some would like a SUBSTANTIAL story mode.

Now i've got it into my head that Patty's the new nightmare for some reason.....

Also, take a look at Natsu. She has a completely different style and weapons now from her dual kodachi in V. Looks to me that Taki is coming back, and instead of getting rid of her replacement they instead had her Discard and Draw so Taki can return with her iconic weapons.
