I don't understand the meaning of "Splat" here.
Rhymes with "Protracted."I think it's like when the portal is near a wall when it's there, so a character runs towards it, but *poof*, the portal vanishes, and he or she splats into the wall.
If that's not the intent, I've got nothin' (except maybe bad snowclone).
Portal Thud would probably be better, but I agree it's probably "splats against the wall" being meant.
They lost me. Forgot me. Made you from parts of me. If you're the One, my father's son, what am I supposed to be?I've seen it used as "Tele-Frag, but with a portal," although I agree "run into a wall" is the correct use. So a better name is probably needed.
I'd suggest The Portals Die or something, since that's what it seems to be going for.
From what I'm reading, it's more related to The Magic Goes Away than Tele-Frag.

Fight smart, not fair. The Magic Goes Away is a pretty huge trope about all magic no longer working, not one or two portals.
So it's like a Locked Portal?
Rhymes with "Protracted."It's specifically when a portal closes right before someone was supposed to go through it. It's the magical equivalent of having a door slammed in your face.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAm I missing something, or does the trope description say nothing about when the portal shut, only that it did so before the character enters?
Portal Judo? It is basically an opposite of Door Judo....

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.I have no idea what Door Judo is from looking at that name, so I doubt Portal Judo would be a good idea.
Okay, it's that second paragraph that's confusing me. Never mind my The Magic Goes Away tangent.
Fight smart, not fair.Deadly Dodging is closely related, but Portal Dodging doesn't seem very clear.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayThe trope title had me thinking of a redirect from Tele-Frag as well.
I'd try to come up with some reference to Wile E. Coyote myself... upon reading the trope description, my immediate thought was him painting a fake road tunnel into a cliffside, the Road Runner running through it like it was there, then him running into it full speed and hitting the wall like he should. The only problem is, I can't think of a name that isn't either named after him or descriptive enough.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. If the trope's simply "a portal closes before it can be entered", then Portal Slam works for me.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanI assume Last Second Portal Close wouldn't work?
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelThere is now a single proposition rename crowner for this trope here. I agree with a rename because I feel like the word "splat" implies that something has gone wrong with the portal (i.e. Tele-Frag) when the trope seems to really be about missing the portal.
This title has brought 25 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.
Over a year old, little usage, and a name that has confused at least a few people. Sure, let's rename.
Portal Splat makes me think of a gory outcome.
I like Portal Thud and Portal Slam as names. Another possibility: Portal Fail or Portal Fails.

Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.I like Portal Slam. Nice and evocative. Good use of onomatopoeia. Conveys the right image.
Rhymes with "Protracted."The renaming crowner looks largely decided. Any more name ideas?
So far a bunch have come up:
Portal Thud
Portal Slam
Portal Fail
Portal Fails
Portal Failure
Last Second Portal Close
Portal Dodging
Portal Judo
Locked Portal

Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.Calling crowner attaching Alt Titles crowner and adjusting thread title.
Crown Description:
I originally thought it was a redirect to Tele-Frag personally, what's up with the way it's so narrowly written.
Fight smart, not fair.
